2 x Assistant Psychologist posts: 1 x Older People's Service (G1 Dementia ward),1 x Emotional Wellbeing Service

The post is a 0.6 wte fixed term contract until 31stMarch 2024.


Older People's Service (G1 Dementia ward) - The role will typically expect the successful applicant to work onto a ward for people with dementia, supporting the development of formulations, staff support, and delivering evidenced based interventions, particularly around Behavioural & Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.

The role also provides opportunity for supporting clinical governance initiatives including reviewing and implementing outcome measures and a variety of audits.


Single Point of Access/Emotional Wellbeing Service - The successful applicant will be based within a multidisciplinary service that provides comprehensive triage, assessment and a range of interventions to people in Sheffield aged 16-65 who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

The post holder will support the delivery of formulation led care and the provision of focussed psychological interventions, whilst working alongside a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Associate Psychologists.

There will be an opportunity to help develop and deliver training to mental health professionals and the postholder will also gain experience working alongside the Head of Psychological Professions and a project team to support their strategic work in developing trauma informed services across the Trust.


The funding for these posts has been acquired through the NHS People Plan & Mental Health Improvement Programme, which aims to support the expansion & diversity of psychological professions in the NHS workforce.


This additional funding aims to address disadvantages by offering paid opportunities for aspiring clinical psychologists to gain clinical experience who otherwise would be disadvantaged as they are less able to volunteer their time.


The posts are within SHSC NHS Foundation Trust & will be clinically supervised by a Clinical Psychologist & will offer a variety of clinical experience.


  • To support and enhance the professional psychological care of service users on G1 ward & other dementia services; to provide psychological assessment, formulation, and psychological interventions under the supervision of the lead psychologist, working according to a plan agreed with the lead psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To support the delivery of psychological informed care to service users receiving input from the Emotional Wellbeing Service; to provide psychological assessment, formulation and psychological interventions under the supervision of the lead psychologist, working according to a plan agreed with the lead psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. To also support the Trauma informed Project Group and Head of Psychological Professions in their strategic work to help develop trauma informed services.
