    An opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer - Certification and Compliance to join the Electrical – Product Safety and Compliance department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. You'll be working across industries including rail, aerospace, off-highway, automotive and defence to identify industry standards, interpret legislation and work with engineers to translate them into requirement and test procedures. Problem solving is at the heart of what we do, and your role would be integral to help ensure client projects are achieved on time.

    Job role:

    • Working with project teams to undertake a wide range of vehicle projects for a broad customer base.
    • Involved in conceptual layout, vehicle attributes and the development and validation strategy of the vehicle.
    • Liaison with regulatory authorities and suppliers of regulatory information, to maintain WAE's awareness of latest industry standards across global markets, becoming the internal expert for homologation requirements.
    • Develop product or full-vehicle certification and compliance sign-off approaches for a range of volumes from individual products to low/medium production-volume programmes.
    • Be responsible for understanding customer requirements, generating project scope and system specifications.
    • Act as the liaison point with the client on matters relating to regulatory compliance and certification, acting as the voice of the client within WAE.
    • Supporting the development of verification and validation plans to demonstrate compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Translation of industry regulations and best practice into system level requirements.
    • Generating and presenting project material to a broad audience of varied knowledge levels.

    You'll have:

    • An engineering qualification (e.g. Degree, Degree Apprenticeship) in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering.
    • A detailed knowledge of certification, legislation, homologation, market requirements and compliance in at least 1 industry is essential: exposure to multiple industries is desirable.
    • Working knowledge of automotive safety integrity level (ASIL), Safety Integrity Level (SIL) or aerospace development assurance level (DAL) is essential.
    • Experience in the automotive industry or marine industry is highly desirable.
    • Experience of performing audits of artefacts required to support compliance and certification and providing constructive feedback to engineering teams to address areas of non-compliance.
    • A good understanding of the design and development processes for vehicles and vehicle systems is essential.
    • Able to demonstrate that the prior experience in certification and compliance is transferable to different industries in an advanced engineering environment.
    • Some knowledge of operational safety would be desirable.
    • Ability to use your initiative, respond quickly to problems and manage your own workload / projects.
