    Job Overview

    We are looking for a Special Schools Nurse who aligns with our mission to deliver exceptional care and service to our patients consistently. The role involves assessing, delivering, and coordinating nursing care for children with special needs and complex health issues in designated schools in Hertfordshire. Joining a team of nurses and clinical support workers, you will work across 4 special schools in the area.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a caring and proactive nurse with experience in supporting children with special needs and disabilities.

    Main Duties of the Job

    • Collaborating with children, families, school staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team to create a supportive learning environment
    • Coordinating and supporting nursing and educational teams at an assigned school
    • Providing compassionate care, excellent communication, and support to families, education staff, as well as training and assessments
    • Delivering high-quality nursing care, including medication management, epilepsy, enteral feeding, diabetic management, and respiratory care
    • Teaching and supporting the school team in maintaining the health needs of students
    • Remaining flexible and responsive to emergency situations

    Qualifications

    Essential Criteria

    • Registered Nurse Child or RN Learning Disabilities with recent relevant experience
    • Current NMC Registration
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development

    Desirable Criteria

    • Completion of Mentorship Course
    • Degree qualification

    Previous Experience

    Essential Criteria

    • Significant post-registration experience
    • Experience in General Pediatrics

    Desirable Criteria

    • Experience in a community setting with children and young people
    • Experience with children and young people having complex needs and disabilities
    • Previous experience in an educational environment
    • Experience in teaching

    Skills

    Essential Criteria

    • Strong communication, organizational, and IT skills
    • Competency in basic nursing skills
    • Ability to work effectively in a team
    • Capacity to stay composed in challenging situations

    Desirable Criteria

    • Understanding of multidisciplinary teamwork with children with complex needs
    • Early leadership skills

    Knowledge

    Essential Criteria

    • Understanding of safeguarding children and health issues affecting young people
