We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate and innovative nurse leader, with experience at a senior level of managing services and teams, to join cancer services.


You will be joining the team as CNS Matron at a very exciting time, as we develop our services across all sites of the Trust in the newly formed Cancer Division.

Te role will have responsibility for the development, management and leadership of allocated Clinical Nurse Specialist teams at Brighton & Princess Royal Hospital for patients who have a solid tumor diagnosis (except breast), and Band 4 Support workers.


Work alongside other Matrons, managers and Leads in Cancer Services, and collaboratively with internal and external partners to enable innovation and development g.

nursing structure, workforce planning, budgetary control, caseload, scope of working relationships, materials, equipment etc.

Responsive to often rapidly changing service and staffing needs.

There may be occasions where the role is required to provide some clinical cover for the Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS) teams to ensure continuity of services.


  • Act as a role model demonstrating attitudes and behavior that reflects Trust values for interpersonal skills and effective leadership qualities
  • Uses highly developed communication skills to support and manage CNS teams, personally and professionally
  • Utilise highly developed negotiation and motivational skills, alongside reassurance and supportive skills
  • Actively participate in senior nursing management responsibilities and Trust representation regarding Cancer, Palliative and End of Life Care at a Senior level
  • Communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information to all members of the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and external agencies
  • Line manage CNS/support worker teams on an operational and strategic level including coordinating leave requests
  • Work with Head of Nursing for Cancer to develop the cancer nursing strategy
