    Job Description

Open to all AtkinsRéalis UK office locations. Croydon, Epsom

Tunnels and underground structures form an increasingly critical part of modern-day infrastructure.

This infrastructure provides economic, societal and environmental benefits through the facilitation of efficient and rapid movement of people below-ground. This may be in mass transit systems, high-speed rail lines or in highway tunnels.

We are expanding our team to meet growing demands from our extensive Client base, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Current areas of demand include nuclear new build, carbon capture & storage, renewable energy (hydropower), and other low carbon engineering.

AtkinsRéalis business is one of the world's most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies, with over 20,000 employees worldwide. At AtkinsRéalis, we offer more than just a job. We offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world to benefit future generations and the natural environment. We are looking for enthusiastic chartered/senior engineers with a proven technical and project management track record.

An overview of typical responsibilities includes:

  • Assisting the Tunneling team with strategic bids.
  • Developing your own network of business contacts to contribute to the growth of the Tunneling disciplines.
  • Integrating the team to our technical discipline and market leads.
  • Mentoring of early career team members.
  • Candidates should have:

  • Chartered status in civil or structural engineering (is a requirement).
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to develop and lead tunnelling design teams.
  • Project management – experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
  • Proven tunnelling design experience in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven experience using advanced constitutive soil models and experience of numerical modelling software (FLAC or PLAXIS). Use in relation to dynamic soil-structure interaction problems would be a benefit.
  • Proven experience using advanced structural analysis and experience of numerical modelling software (Robot or STAAD). Use in relation to BIM-integrated workflows to exchange data with Revit would be a benefit.
  • Application of CDM Regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
  • A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
  • Introducing the Team:

Our specialist Tunnelling team works across a range of engineering disciplines and applies advanced analysis techniques, combined with practical design, operational and site experience. We provide support to Clients throughout the project life cycle, from the planning and feasibility stages through to commissioning, operation, refurbishment and upgrade of tunnel infrastructure.
