    We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Bank clinical support worker at Scarborough Hospital.

    As a bank clinical Support Worke r you will make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high quality healthcare in the Trust. Your role is to support registered professionals in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate care to patients .

    Do you have?

    Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills

    Can you communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff of all disciplines, in both written and verbal forms.

    Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the patient

    Can you work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting Junior Doctors, wards, A&E and departments within a defined range of clinical tasks

    Can you work as part of the Hospital at Night accepting any duties as delegated by the Operational Practitioner/Clinical Co-ordinator

    Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

    Are you proficient in

    Venepuncture including potential discharge patients, blood cultures and transfusion sample.

    Insertion of peripheral intravenous cannula

    Recording and obtaining 12 lead E.C.G readings on pediatrics and adults

    Catheterisation of male patients

    Coag-u-chek

    Abbott testing.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide 'clinical support' duties in all designated clinical areas within the hospital environment

    To aid potential discharge patients with early morning venepuncture

    To be an active part of the crash team

    To train to undertake agreed tasks when requested to do so by a registered healthcare professional under the instruction of a doctor or registered nurse, to alleviate junior doctors workload.

    Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills

    Basic I.T. skills for training and HOOH

    Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff of all disciplines, in both written and verbal forms

    Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the patient.

    Work as part of multi-disciplinary team, supporting the clinical skills team, junior doctors' wards and departments within a defined range of clinical tasks

    Work as part of the Hospital at night accepting any duties through NHS APEX delegated by the Operational/Clinical Co-ordinator

    Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lone working.

    To undertake training and be assessed as competent in the following procedures:

    Venepuncture including potential discharge patients, blood cultures and transfusion sample.

    Insertion of peripheral intravenous cannula

    Recording and obtaining 12 lead E.C.G readings on pediatrics and adults

    Catheterisation of male patients

    Change of supra pubic catheters

    Coag-u-chek

    Abbott testing

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Work as part of the clinical Support Worker team, managing the 'clinical support' workload effectively within contracted hours. The postholder will work within standard operating procedures and act on own initiative under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional
  • Organise own work to provide support to the clinical and nursing staff in all aspects of care
  • Will be required to work in an unpredictable and sometimes stressful environment and prioritise work
  • Undertake assessments and become competent in a range of clinical competencies applicable to the role
  • Will be required to have highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with patients, doctors and the nursing team
  • Maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients, staff and the organisation at all times
  • Understand the importance of patient record keeping
  • Acknowledge the equality and diversity of patients and their rights and responsibilities within the delivery of care
  • Be aware of and implement Trust policies and procedures
  • Be aware of and implement, as necessary, Trust procedures on Fire, Resuscitation and untoward incidents (including aggression)
  • Will be require use equipment on the ward/department in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Trust's Health and Safety Policy
  • Required to act as a mentor to Trainee clinical workers
  • May be required to assess junior clinical workers cannulation skills
  • Participate in statutory, mandatory and other appropriate training as required by the Trust

    Experience

    Essential criteria

  • At least 12 months experience of working within an acute care setting as a Level 2 or 3 Health Care Assistant or Level 3 Support Worker.
