    Job Title: Maintenance Operative – Highways Electrical

    Base Location: Piddlehinton, Near Dorchester

    Salary: Up to £28,531 plus Van, Fuel Card, all PPE and tools, Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme, plus a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

    Working Pattern: Permanent| Full Time- Hybrid working depot and on site - You will work an 'on-call' rota approximately 1 week in 5 which attracts additional standby and call out payments at an enhanced rate.

    Could you be our next Highways Lighting Maintenance Operative to join the team and drive this success forwards?

    What will I be doing in this role?

    As a Highways Lighting Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of highway lighting systems such as streetlights, traffic signs and other street furniture. Your primary goal will be to fix any faulty equipment quickly to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of lighting infrastructure to enhance visibility and road safety for drivers and pedestrians.

    Some of your role will involve:

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing lamps, cleaning fixtures, and repairing damaged or malfunctioning lighting components.
    • Respond promptly to reported lighting failures or outages and troubleshoot problems to determine the cause of the issue.
    • Carry out repairs and replacements of electrical components, including wiring, switches, ballasts, and control systems.
    • Collaborate with other team members to coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow and adhering to established safety protocols.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and equipment inventory.
    • Operate specialised equipment such as MEWP's, and electrical testing devices to access and assess lighting fixtures located at elevated heights.
    • Comply with all health and safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.

    This role would suit someone who is looking to transfer from their existing role, perhaps from domestic or commercial electrical works and learn new skills, gain additional qualifications and enjoy working outdoors, in the beautiful Dorset scenery

    What do I need to be successful in the role?

    We are looking for you to bring your previous experience working in the electrical/construction industry, we would also love you to have:

    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues efficiently.
    • Able to use a hand-held tablet to receive jobs and log repair reports.
    • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all maintenance tasks.
    • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights, using appropriate safety equipment.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members and effective interaction with stakeholders and the public.

    Some of our 'nice to haves' are:

    • We would look for you to hold IPAF/PASMA working at heights training
    • It would be a benefit if you have some knowledge of work within 18th Edition regulations
    • If you are qualified to City and Guilds 2391 qualification this would be a benefit but not essential
    • Completion of a G39 Electrical Safety in the planning, installation, commissioning and maintenance of public lighting and other street furniture training Course
