    Description

    To lead the operations planning and scheduling function of the Sonar Systems OBU, supporting the delivery of operational excellence through consistently hitting programme schedule, cost and quality requirements in a way which is sustainable, repeatable and has our people's safety and growth at the heart of everything we do.

    The Master Scheduler is responsible for creating and maintaining the production schedule for all products manufactured by the company. To work closely with Production, Engineering, Programme and Supply Chain to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time and that inventory levels are maintained. The Master Scheduler also creates schedules for new product development projects and coordinates the release of new products to production.

    As part of the Sonar Systems Operations team, develop and deliver the planning and scheduling capability for operations across the UK.

    Accountability for developing and implementing the strategy for achieving quality long/mid and short-term planning and scheduling capability in the business to identify the assets, people, process capacity and capabilities to ensure quality execution of the production plan.

    Early engagement in the product lifecyle to inform production requirements to support delivery of the Sonar Systems activities to cost and programmes, materials planning and scheduling which supports procurement strategies and production performance reporting to programme management team.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Development of strategy and implementation plan to create a planning and scheduling capability in the Sonar Systems which identifies long, mid and short-term production requirements (people, process, materials and assets) to support quality execution of the production plan.
    • Develop planning and scheduling tools which translate forecast demand (order book and opportunities) into production requirements.
    • Develop a tool and process to identify and manage production capacity slots which are allocated to programme management requirements, support delivery to milestones and inform impact to delivery dates where the production demand changes.
    • Create and maintain the master production schedule for the company's products
    • Monitor inventory levels and forecast future needs
    • Adjust the master schedule as needed to accommodate changes in customer demand or production constraints
    • Generate regular reports on order status, production progress, and inventory levels
    • Identify potential scheduling problems and work with relevant departments to resolve them
    • Continuously strive to improve the efficiency of the scheduling process
    • Develop tools to understand production performance to inform continuous performance opportunities, production capacity slot planning, articulate impact of programme changes on delivery to milestones and inform future programmes on hours required to deliver product components.
    • Early engagement in the product lifecycle to inform the bid and programme management activities on production capabilities, work collaboratively to develop solutions to deliver to customer requirements/expectations.
    • Accountable for translating the production demand into materials requirements (Bill of Materials, quantity, schedule) which is provided to the commercial team and informs strategic procurement to enable materials to be made available to support quality execution of the production plan.
    • Management of inventory including stores management, logistics (both outside and within the manufacturing facility), financial reporting, stock management.
    • Lead the planning and scheduling team in a way which creates clear career paths for colleagues within both the business and provides development opportunities through training, support and mentoring

    Role requirements:

    • Expertise in planning and scheduling activities of a complex manufacturing operation
    • Understanding of manufacturing activities including people, process, materials and assets
    • Ability to influence executive and SLT stakeholders, including challenging when necessary
    • Leadership skills, business acumen and ability to lead, manage and matrix manage multidisciplinary teams
    • Strategic thinker, able to define a vision and the mechanism to deliver the associated objectives
    • Experience of embedding cultural change and driving continuous improvement
    • Decision making and delegation skills

    Qualifications / skills:

    • Suitable experience in planning and scheduling
    • Preferable experience in defence industry, but not necessary
    • Experience in cultural change and driving continuous improvement
    • Qualifications in lean, six sigma, change / project management
    • Ability to influence with, and without authority
    • Ability to drive for results and delivery focused, with good attention to detail and able to prioritise the team / tasks.
    • Aptitude to create and drive strategies, creating clarity our of complexity and address route causes.
    • Ability to drive engagement across a large business
    • Executive-level communication and influencing skills with the ability to resolve issues and build consensus
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously whilst able to motivate others around the business
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability leading collaborative groups with ability to provide clear and concise and feedback.
