SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Client is contracted to provide responsive maintenance and void property works plus gas heating maintenance. This is for both in hours and part of a call out rota.

We are seeking a conscientious and enthusiastic Gas Safe Engineer with a can-do attitude and flexible approach.

The nature of the contract means that you will be working mainly in people's homes and must therefore be able to maintain a professional appearanceand attitude, whilst being always polite and courteous.

Some tenants will be elderly and/or vulnerable which means that you must have well-developed interpersonal skills and be able to empathise with tenants that you interact with before, during and afterundertaking your work.


Your purpose is to carry out the right work at the right time, which means a quality job completed efficiently in a safe, clean and tidy way.

This is to ensure that the properties you service are compliant in terms of gas planned maintenance. It is a furtherrequirement that all operatives must pass a DBS check.


The key activities you will undertake in this role will be:

To maintain high client satisfaction through delivery of maintenance and repairs services ensuring a controlled and safe environment whilst working effectively and in a timely manner and balancing constantly changing priorities.


The attention to detail and ensuring that we conclude our work, with the right first-time approach to maximise and enhance our reputation with our customers, is paramount to the success of the contract.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The annual inspection and testing of boilers and the subsequent issue of Landlord Gas Safety Certificate (CP12) in live tenant and void environments.
  • Faultfinding, servicing and repairs to boilers and other gas appliances.
  • Inspection and certification of other gas appliances such as cookers.
  • Installation of new boilers and other gas appliances.
  • The coaching, mentoring and assessment of a beginner or improver Gas Safe Plumber.
  • Occasional associated plumbing work as required.
  • Be willing to work out of hours to the requirements of the client and participate on the call out rota, when required.
  • Fully diagnose a job before starting work; identifying the materials you need and other trades that may be required for full completion.
  • Communicate with the operations centre to provide your estimated completion time, materials used on the job and completion details.
  • Ensuring the customer is kept fully up to date with all aspects of the work and that they understand any disruption to their daytoday living that may arise from your work.
  • Making sure that your work environment is always safe and tidy, with particular attention to the cleanliness of the work area as you leave.
  • Ensuring your company vehicle is kept safe, clean, and tidy at all time.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Be a technical expert for gas safe plumbing, providing efficient effective solutions where required.
  • Able to coach, mentor and train a beginner or improver gas safe plumber as they progress through their certification.
  • Able to use the phone and PDA to communicate effectively, explaining yourself clearly and concisely understanding what information you need or need to provide.
  • Be comfortable in dealing with tenants and remain professional even when issues are contentious, especially when explaining to tenants that the right repair isn't necessarily the repair they want.
  • Understand the need to complete outstanding pieces prior to starting in other areas
  • Be able to diagnose the right repair adopting the right firsttime approach
  • Be a team player ensuring lessons learnt, and good practices are shared amongst the team for future benefit of the service.
  • Have a practical approach to health and safety, ensuring that you and others are always safe.
  • A problem solver and be able to work out what is the right repair.
  • Be able to selfmanage and be selfmotivated, prioritising and programming work in the most efficient manner.
  • Be able to use knowledge and judgement to make the right decisions and find effective solutions to problems.
  • Be able to understand the client processes and actively engage in our culture

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Technical gas compliant, knowledge of working methods, practices, procedures, regulations and legislation when applied to a building maintenance environment.
  • Have broad knowledge of the materials and methods used in the gas maintenance and wider building maintenance industry.
  • A practical and compliant knowledge of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and most recent associated code of practice and guidance.
