Nursery Practitioner Maternity Cover
The Vale Academy are looking to recruit a Nursery Practitioner to join our delightful and successful team on a fixed term basis, covering maternity leave for two terms (Spring and Summer).We are looking to appoint an individual willing to work as part ofa team in order to provide a purposeful, stimulating environment that is rich in learning opportunities, which allow all our children to play, develop and learn.
It is very important to us that we provide a high level of physical, emotional, social and intellectualcare for all our children ensuring positive development and growth.
Therefore, we are seeking a new member of our team with experience working in a Nursery setting that will be as equally committed and passionate as we are.
Key Duties
- To promote the acceptance and inclusion of the pupils with SEND, encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner
- Monitor the pupil's response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
- To give positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain the pupil's efforts and develop selfreliance and selfesteem.
- Be passionate and have a proven success of working with children
- Have up to date knowledge of legislation relating to Early Years such as EYFS, SEND, Safeguarding and the Childcare Act 200
- Have knowledge of child development and children's' needs
- Have the ability to encourage partnership working between parents/carers and families
- Be able to communicate well with both adults and children
- Hold good organisational skills and have the ability, flexibility and willingness to take on other responsibilities or duties as deemed necessary
- Understand Equal Opportunities and an awareness of Health and Safety and practical hygiene issues
Main Functions
To assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned, to enable him/her to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.
- Clarifying and explaining instructions
- Ensuring the pupil is able to use equipment and materials provided
- Motivating and encouraging the pupil(s) as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils' needs
- Assisting in weaker areas, e.g. speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc.
- Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
- Liaising with class teacher, SENCO and other professionals about individual education plans contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate
- Providing additional nurture to individuals when requested by the class teacher or SENDCO
- Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
- Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupil

6To mark pupils' work under the direction of the class teacher
7To support the pupil in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom
8To provide regular feedback on the pupil's learning and behaviour to the teacher/SENDCO, including feedback on the effectiveness of the behaviour strategies adopted
9Under the direction of the teacher, carry out and report on systematic observations of pupils to gather evidence of their knowledge, understanding and skills upon which the teacher makes judgements about their stage of development
10When working with a group of pupils, understand and use group dynamics to promote group effectiveness and support group and individual performance.
13To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school
14To contribute towards reviews of the pupil's progress as appropriate
15To comply with legal and organisational requirements for maintaining the health, safety and security of yourself and others in the learning environment
16To take part in training activities offered by the school to further knowledge and skills of working with a child with specific learning difficulties
17To be willing to support playground/break time supervision e.g. educational games, homework clubs etc.
18To accompany teacher and pupils on educational visits
19To provide individual support, as required, during examination sessions
20To carry out the above duties in accordance with the Education Department's Equal Opportunities Policy.

The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the school as may be reasonable expected, without changing the general character of the dutiesor the level of responsibility entailed.

Full-time, Monday - Friday 8.30am - 3.30pm, 30 minutes lunch
