Job summary:

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is one of the largest Government Departments and one of the country's biggest organisations. Almost every individual and business in the UK is a direct customer of HMRC.

Whilst HMRC is primarily known for the collection of taxes and other financial concerns, HMRC's Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the department's civil and criminal investigations.

FIS is home to a wide range of people with a variety of skills and professional backgrounds - including accountants, cybercrime specialists, criminal justice professionals, tax professionals and operational delivery support teams to name but a few.


Job description:


It is an exciting time to join FIS Investigation Services as we approach a new financial year with lots of challenges and complex operations to support.

The role requires someone who is driven, embraces change and the opportunity to lead others through time sensitive tasks amongst competing priorities.

Investigation services underpin the work done by Investigators in both the Civil and Criminal world of fraud, requiring the ability to not only manage the flow of work into the team, but also be integral in the engagement with all of our customers.

Investigation work in Dover is often dynamic and requires someone who is willing to be flexible and able to embrace change.


Investigation services teams work nationally together to ensure we bring in as much money for the public purse, helping to support all of those services we all rely on, and you will therefore be a part of a nationwide family who support each other.


As a Hub Officer you will be responsible for the tasks listed below and may also be asked to line manage some colleagues.

Training will be provided and opportunities to be involved in nationwide projects or working groups will also be available.


Responsibilities

  • Interrogating departmental systems, preparing standard intelligence packs and standardising and interpreting data.
  • Procurement of essential items and management of associated budgets.
  • Developing professional stakeholder relationships with investigators to support planning and delivery.
  • Managing property and vehicles, as part of which you may be required to drive an official vehicle for reasons such as return of evidence, property retrieval or for vehicle maintenance / repairs.

As a leader within the hub, you will additionally:

  • Manage work allocations to ensure high quality, timely, delivery of essential services to support FIS investigations.
  • Ensure that tasks undertaken are of the highest standard through quality assurance processes.

Person specification:


  • Deliver high quality, professional and accessible services, anticipating the needs of our investigations by.
  • Performing tasks suitable to the Officer grade, in line with the guidance provided.
  • Contributing to a supportive culture, that can realise the operational potential of your team to deliver against the Investigation Services SLAs and KPI's.
  • Identifying, through conversations and outcomes of quality assurance processes, a need for skill and/or capabilities development and ensure these are communicated to your Investigation Hub Team Leader (HO).
  • Where required by guidance, performing the necessary task assurance to ensure the tasking output is fit for purpose and to the required standard.
  • Showing good judgement and decisionmaking skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Developing a professional relationship with local investigators and case teams.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across FIS to build skills, capabilities, share best practice and deliver business objectives.
  • Ensuring all duties are performed in line with the Investigation Services Blueprint.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate and provide inclusive leadership.
  • An ability to pay particular attention to detail, to support and assure the work of others.
  • Strong organisational skills, including an ability to be selfstarting; work effectively and remain professional and work to deadlines.
  • The ability to prioritise and multitask, ensuring service delivery to your customers.
  • Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office O365 products, including Word and Excel.
  • New recruits must hold a full UK Driving Licence and be willing and able to drive for business need.
