    Job summary

    We are looking for a highly motivated, digitally experienced pharmacist to manage and strategically develop medicines management and optimisation digital solutions. You will be supported by the Medicines Management Clinical Information Systems Lead and the Medicines Management Strategic Management team and will work closely alongside the CIO, the CCIO and the CNIO.

    The post holder will provide leadership and project management for the digital transformation of medicines management services, ensuring the systems are implemented whilst engaging stakeholders at all levels and are aligned with the medicines optimisation strategy and the organisation's digital strategy.

    You will support the Medicines Management Clinical Information Systems Lead by ensuring the implementation of safe clinical medicines related IT systems. In doing so, supporting the medicines management governance and quality agenda. You will also represent the Medicines Management Service in relevant specialist networks and Trust wide meetings.

    You will manage the trusts electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems, ensuring they are safe and meet the needs of patients and staff across the trust's expanded footprint. You will be responsible for ensuring there are effective governance and audit processes in place with regards to system changes and will co-ordinate all aspects of EPMA and pharmacy stock control systems. You will lead and manage upgrades and rationalisation of these systems in use.

    Main duties of the job

    Will participate in out of hours working may be required to support projects and planned commitments. The purpose of this role will be the development, implementation, maintenance and optimisation of the medicines management IT systems, supported by a team of pharmacy technicians and analyst support. This will include updating configuration as required, and reviewing, testing and implementing new functionality and upgrades as they are developed. The post holder will be responsible for training and supporting staff, and for developing relevant procedures.

    The post holder will also be expected to provide a clinical pharmacy service to service users and trust staff within an agreed clinical speciality, according to the expertise of the post holder. The post holder will participate in the clinical rota and will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation and requirement to provide an on-call service.

    To provide leadership and project management for the implementation andmaintenance of clinical medicines-related IT systems across the trust and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the medicines management IT team.

    To engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside of the trust, acting as an ambassador for the use of medicines-related IT systems and securing the involvement and commitment of staff and other stakeholders.

    To be the pharmacy professional lead for design configuration, pilot andimplementation of clinical systems within the organisation.

    To develop a strategic vision and governance strategy for implementing IT systems and new ways of working for the medicines management work in collaboration with the medicines management governance, safety and education teams to develop policy and procedure to ensure safe medication practice. To act as an expert and advocate for Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) to all users across the trust.

    To represent the medicines management service in relevant specialist networks.

    To attend and contribute to trust-wide meetings to fulfil the objectives of the post.

    To act as a chair for relevant meetings, including project groups.

    To identify and develop end-to-end processes, policies and standard operating procedures for the use of IT systems to support the management of medicines.

    To review, update and implement trust-wide medicines-related policies andprocedures which will be impacted by the introduction of new ways of working, taking these through relevant approval committees.

    To ensure that new ways of working do not introduce clinical risk, and that all processes meet the clinical requirements for prescribing, are evidence-based and comply with legal, national and local guidelines and formularies.

    To explore opportunities to develop, implement and embed automated systems, in order to increase efficiency and accuracy.

    To ensure that directives related to digital medicines management are implemented within the trust, in line with legislation.

    To identify options for integrating or streamlining IT systems, reducing duplication and ensuring a high level of data quality.

    To ensure that adequate business continuity plans are in place with regard to medicines management IT systems.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Master of Pharmacy degree, or equivalent qualification
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent qualification
  • Desirable

  • Formal training or significant experience in mental health pharmacy
  • Independent prescribing qualification, or willingness to undertake this
