    Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

    Southmead Hospital

    Part time - 24 hours per week (6.5 DCC)

    North Bristol NHS Trust, in conjunction with Weston General Hospital, is delighted to announce an opportunity for a part-time Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at our Breast Care Unit, following Royal College Approval. This significant investment in our service allows for clinical activity across Southmead and Weston General sites, integrating into our exceptional surgical team. Established in 2013 and expanded in 2020, the Bristol Breast Care Unit, now one of the largest in the country, serves a population of over 500,000. With over 1000 breast cancer diagnoses and close to 1200 operations annually, the Unit is at the forefront of breast care. Hosting the Avon Breast Screening Programme and a comprehensive multidisciplinary team, the Unit offers a holistic approach to patient care. Our MDT includes specialised nursing services for metastatic breast cancer, plastic surgery, breast psychology, and a therapy team.

    The Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon role encompasses the diagnosis and management of breast patients at both Southmead Hospital and Weston General Hospital, including operative sessions and partnership in patient care with consultant colleagues and the MDT. The postholder will contribute to the teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and students, engage in study and research opportunities, and participate in ongoing professional development and revalidation processes.

    Applicants should have full GMC registration and be on or eligible for the specialist register in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, with a Higher surgical qualification (FRCS or equivalent). A strong background in oncoplastic breast surgery, evidenced through training and experience, is essential.
