The challenge
Birmingham is a city with a clear focus on the future.

Already Europe's youngest major city, and the most diverse in the UK outside London, we want nothing less than to be the best in the UK.

We'll achieve that by driving improvement and modernisation across the council and transforming the way we operate and deliver services.

From utilising new technology to organising services around our citizens, we're reducing cost while improving outcomes.

As a member of our dynamic procurement service, managing a spend of millions of pounds on supplies and services each year, you'll be at the heart of it.

The opportunity
Develop your experience in procurement and contract management as part of an expert team.

Working closely with managers across the organisation, we provide guidance on a wide range of commercial, legal and compliance issues to help them achieve excellent value for money.

You'll offer vital technical and administrative support to the team to ensure everything from research to record-keeping runs smoothly.

It's an excellent introduction to local authority procurement and a chance to contribute to the future success of Birmingham City Council.

The person

An experienced administrator with a degree-level qualification or able to demonstrate significant experience in the relevant field, you're likely to have provided procurement or project support including exposure to tendering, contracts, policy and performance.

Highly organised, with well-developed numerical and analytical skills, you'll be ready to work to demanding targets. You'll also have a strong customer focus and good communication skills.

The benefits
Our working environment promotes diversity and inclusivity, healthy lifestyle choices, wellbeing and balance.

We'll empower you to be the best you can be, with coaching, mentoring and training programmes that meet your professional and personal development needs at every stage of your career with us.

We also offer:

  • Family friendly policies.
  • A range of benefits, including membership of the West Midlands Pension Fund, discounted gym membership and a confidential employee assistance programme.
  • 29 days' annual leave increasing with length of service, plus the option to purchase additional days.

Closing date:
Sunday, 08 January 2023 at 23.59 hrs

Interviews are planned for the weeks commencing 16th and 23rd January 2023.
