    Fixed Term 12 months - end date 31st March 2025

    A vacancy has arisen for a dynamic Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Occupational Therapy team which is based within acute adult mental health In-patient care at Pendleview, Royal Blackburn Hospital. The team provides occupational therapy input into all the in -patient wards.

    The team consists of OTs, Occupational Therapy assistants, and Recovery Support workers who work collaboratively with the Inpatient multi-disciplinary team to promote a model of Recovery.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist who has a commitment to further developing their skills within a mental health setting. We will require at least 18 months post registration experience, with at least 12 months of this working within a mental health setting.

    The post holder will provide assessments, plan and deliver interventions for people, whose mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning, and who have complex occupational needs. The successful candidate must be able to effectively manage their own time and work proactively to meet the fast pace and demands of the service. They will require excellent communication skills and an ability to work flexibly to facilitate timely discharges.

    Main duties of the job

    Having substantial experience, specialist interest, and expertise in mental health occupational therapy,the postholder will use their deep understanding of the relationship between occupation and mental health to provide occupational therapy in order to maintain, restore or create a match beneficial to the individual between the abilities of the person, the demands of her/his occupations in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure and the demands of the environment.     The postholder will deliver a range of group and/or individual interventions drawn from relevant frames of reference, demonstrating sophisticated clinical reasoning skills. They will prioritise planning and delivering interventions for people whose mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning and who have complex occupational needs. This senior position requires achieving an appropriate balance between the provision of specialist occupational therapy and taking on shared roles that contribute to the efficient functioning of the team.
