    Consultant Clinical Forensic/Counselling Psychologist/Psychotherapist

    An experienced Clinical, Forensic or Counselling Psychologist is required to join a strong multi-disciplinary team in a low secure service providing specialist inpatient care to men who have mental health needs and forensic histories.

    The service is based in Dartford in Kent, and has good links with the Forensic Outreach and Liaison Service (FOLS) within KMPT.

    The role is a two-year secondment within the service and you will need to demonstrate agreement with your line manager before applying for the post.

    KMPT low secure forensic services received a CQC rating of outstanding in 2019, and a 2017 RCP Low Secure Quality Network review gave the service a rating of 94%, indicating a very high-quality service.

    A CQC inspection assessed the service as good in 2023.

    The Service Line specialises in the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered as well as LD offenders, serving the county of Kent and a population of approximately 1.There are close working links within the medium secure services in Maidstone.

    The service works closely with local Probation, Social Services, the Courts and local NHS services.

    The service has an excellent multidisciplinary ethos, enjoying good working relationships as demonstrated by the high level of morale among staff.

    CPD and supervision are supported and valued in the Trust.

    The role will be primarily clinical, but there are strategic and management requirements, providing the lead role for the psychology input into the service, involving overseeing the psychology input to both the LD low secure and low secure service, and offering line management and supervision to other team members.

    There is also a role as part of the senior management team, supporting the overall psychology lead for KMPT Forensic Secure Services.

    It is hoped that the successful applicant will actively pursue research and evaluation within the forensic field and contribute to the provision of supervision and training to other psychologists and professions.

    The service has strong links with the local training scheme and other academic bodies.

    Clinical activities will involve primarily inpatient work, including the provision of both specialist psychology assessment and intervention to a range of mentally disordered offenders.

    The successful applicant would have robust skills and experience in a number of areas such as fire setting, sex offending and personality disorders as well as expert knowledge in learning disabilities, ADHD, autism and other developmental disabilities.

    Bringing to bear clinical and data analysis skills, you will be developing a role already established within the team to work closely with patients, ward staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team in supporting the delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive psychology service.

    You will be joining the psychology team within the Service Line, which includes assistant psychologists, and chartered clinical and forensic psychologists.

    Training, Qualifications and Registration
    Good honours degree in Psychology
    Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS.
    Relevant advanced specialist training/qualifications in the skills relevant to the specialty area (e.g. Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainees.

    Experience of working as a qualified clinical / counselling psychologist for a minimum of six years, including substantial post-qualification "highly specialist" level experience within the specialty where the post is located.

    ASD, substance misuse, physical health).
    Experience of working with adults across the lifespan.

    Substantial experience in providing consultancy to colleagues and in provision of group supervision / case formulation & reflective practice.

    Experience of audit, service evaluation, service development & clinical leadership
    Experience of managing highly complex situations concerning safeguarding, risk management, clinical governance, complaints and investigations
    Experience of providing psychological supervision and teaching/training to others
    Substantial experience supervising Doctoral psychology trainees.
    Substantial experience in Learning Disabilities

    Ability to comprehend and communicate verbally and in writing highly complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to a range of settings and audiences, including complex highly emotive situations and to those with significantly impaired communication capacities.

    Ability to analyse and manage complex multi-factorial information from a range of sources both clinical and organisational, integrate and formulate it from a variety of psychological perspectives and make an expert professional judgement about appropriate options for action in a public service context.
