    You will join a national team of over engineers and designers within the Marine Sector of Babcock. We are a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine system engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling and project support services to the marine and defence markets.

    The role
    As a Principal Marine FE Analyst, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Execute and deliver complex FEA analysis tasks.
  • Use your deep technical knowledge to support product development throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support to key customers.
  • Ensure efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs.
  • Generate appropriate analytical methodologies for the optimisation of stress analysis studies and produce appropriately justified technical solutions, interpreting, and converting analysis results into practical design outputs.
  • Analysis will be predominately using ANSYS, for the analysis of linear and non-linear, static, and dynamic, structural, thermodynamic, in time and vibration domains and multi-physics environment, performing analytical studies for analysing the mechanism of kinematics, dynamics, and force analysis.
  • This role is full time, 35 hours per week, with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

    Essential experience of the Principal Marine FE Analyst

  • Mechanical or structural experience within ships.
  • You should have experience in the use and application of ANSYS (preferable), LD-Dyna or Altair Hyperworks (desirable).
  • Proven experience in implementing robust verification and validation processes for stress analysis and experience in training and development of engineers in the field of stress analysis.
  • Experience in the development of Mechanical and Marine engineering systems on marine platforms, experience in using 2D and 3D CAD packages, experience of contributing in Design Reviews, experience of working with production teams as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Qualifications for the Principal Marine FE Analyst

  • HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with experience in a relevant field
  • Be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status or have a route to Chartership.
  • Security Clearance
