Are you an ambitious and supportive Learning Assistant?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reflective and committed Key Stage 1 or 2 Learning Assistant.


This is an exciting opportunity to be a Learning Assistant at our wonderful school, helping to nurture our school's amazing children and support them to develop a lifetime love of learning.

This role is full time hours Monday

  • Friday which is initially fixed term for 1 year with the possibility of renewing.

About us:

Ash Hill Primary School is in the Micklefield area of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The youngest children at our school are 3 years old (Nursery class), and the oldest are eleven (Year 6).

There are approximately 210 children at Ash Hill altogether. The Nursery is housed in the on-site Children's Centre. The centre provides a range of services and activities for families in the area.

Ash Hill is a happy school, and everyone works together to ensure that the children are safe and well looked after, and that they all receive an education which enables them to meet their full potential.


About the role:


Responsibilities of the post:


The Learning Assistant's main role is to provide support for pupils in a named class and named pupils across the school in a specific area of expertise.

In doing so a Learning Assistant will;

Work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff to implement agreed learning programmes or enable access to learning with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom.


To lead and maintain positive and enjoyable break times/lunch times for pupils including organising and participating in physical games and activities.


To contribute to the aspirational whole school ethos, environment and organisation both practically and as a positive role model for pupils and colleagues.


Supporting the pupils:

  • To provide learning support for the pupils in class or on 1:1 basis/in a small group.


To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the child and seek advice from the Inclusion Leader, or class teacher as required.

To be involved in the planning and preparation of the day to day class activities.

To organise and maintain an inclusive learning environment both in the classroom and outside.

Motivate and encourage the pupil to have a go at activities they may be unsure of.


To attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.

Provide support and facilitate interaction with peers in the classroom and around school.

Encourage independence and self-help skills through modelling and scaffolding

**Supporting the Class Teacher:
- **To work as part of the team to ensure that the wellbeing and personal development of all pupils in the class, enhancing their learning opportunities and life skills.

Assist with supporting classroom organization and embedding consistent routines.


To provide regular feedback to the class teacher, Inclusion Leader and relevant outside agencies about pupil progress, and any challenges to achieving targets set.


Work with and support individuals or groups of children on specific activities set by the teacher, such as reading, writing, practical, creative, physical and recreational activities.


Assist in the implementation of individual and group intervention programmes for students and help monitor their progress, recording this as directed by the Inclusion Leader.

Assist class teachers with maintaining student records.

Support pupils with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop the children's social skills.

Undertake observations and assessments of children, as directed by the class teacher.

Organise, collect and mark homework, under the direction of the class teacher.

Organise reading books and book bags for children in the class.


Under the direction of the class teacher:
Prepare classroom and associated areas for use, including photocopying and preparing materials, and setting out equipment and apparatus. Clean and put away materials, equipment, and apparatus after use. Tidy classroom and associated areas.

Make up and maintain teaching aids. Prepare learning and notices for display purposes. Assist with/arrange displays and interest tables.
