    Lighting Electrician

    Salary £34, % SLA Location Reading Shift Pattern Days Hours per day

    The Vacancy

    Job Purpose:

    Responsible for the lighting planned maintenance and emergency repair work in approximately 100+ M&S stores to pre-determined standards in an efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst complying with the laid-down Company Health and Safety policy.

  • To work with company and M&S colleagues to ensure laid-down standards of quality are maintained at all times.
  • To ensure that all members of the lighting team are aware of and understand company practices and procedures relating to lighting installations.
  • Ensure all mandatory training evolve modules and training are completed.
  • Make it Happen:

  • To respond promptly and positively to service call requests from the Helpdesk and to assess the requirements of the job and carry out repairs as and where necessary.
  • To complete the PPM schedules within agreed timescales and to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and to the laid-down procedures.
  • To carry out all tasks assigned within the allotted time period to the satisfaction of the company and client.
  • To identify non-repairable faults in lighting equipment and promptly advise the Area Maintenance Manager of findings, with recommendations regarding suitable replacement.
  • To advise the store manager of any repair and maintenance issues relating to lighting that are likely to affect the smooth running of the store.
  • Monitor and update the Mercury system including live job updates.

  • To ensure all tools and equipment necessary (as per company tool list) to complete maintenance and repairs are available and serviceable at all times.

  • To carry out surveys and complete reports as required by the Area Maintenance Manager.

  • To supervise, monitor and control the work, attendance and timekeeping of the Lighting Mate(s) to ensure quality standards and efficiency are maintained.
  • To assist lighting technicians in other areas when requested to do so by the Area Manager.
  • To attend cell meetings as and when required.
  • To comply with any other reasonable request or instruction from the City Management Team.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    General Education

  • Educated to GCSE / Standard Grade level Professional/Academic/ Vocational Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3/City and guilds 236 Part 1 + 2 or equivalent in electrical installation/Maintenance.
  • City and Guilds th Edition or 18th Edition(new).
  • Specialist Requirements

  • Electrical - Edition Wiring Regulations is essential.
  • Basic installation of lighting in stores, e.g. cable glands, conduits, track, light density and spread, cable types and loadings is essential.
  • Ability to maintain/repair the full range of lighting equipment in an M&S store to recognised standards, e.g. filament, fluorescent, mercury vapour, sodium, low voltage, car park
  • Ability to locate electrical feeds to lighting systems and follow safe isolation procedures pre and post works
  • Ability to mark up distribution legends within supply boards if required
  • Ability to work at heights and competent in the use of steps and ladders.
  • Ability to distinguish colours to the standard required for lighting.
  • Full current driving licence
  • Degree of flexibility required. Will be required to stay away from home occasionally.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours. Night shift may be required.
