    Head of Physics – Independent Secondary School – Lambeth - September 2024

    Key details:

    Contract: Permanent
    Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30-5pm during term-time
    Salary: up to £55k (dependent on qualifications and experience)
    Location: Lambeth, Inner London

    Responsibilities:

    ·Leadership and management of the department of Physics. Working with the other Heads of Department and Vice Principal (Academic) in order to ensure that the highest academic, professional, and ethical standards are maintained at all times

    ·Raising standards of student attainment within the department, developing, and enhancing the teaching practice of others

    ·Supporting academic staff across the school in using innovative technology in the classroom

    Purpose:

    ·To be responsible for the running of the department and oversee all aspects of the delivery of the department

    ·To be accountable for student progress and development in the department

    ·To enhance teaching and undertake quality assurance through a programme of lesson observations, work scrutiny and share best practice

    ·To assist with the allocation of groups when the timetable is constructed

    ·To assist in the interview and recruitment of students

    ·To contribute to performance management, CPD and the appraisal process of staff

    ·To inform and support staff in using innovative and dynamic technology learning opportunities throughout the school

    Key skills:

    ·Personal effectiveness: good time management, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; excellent communication, presentation, and planning skills

    ·Excellent people management skills

    ·Commitment to on-going professional development and training to develop outstanding classroom practice

    ·To be able to engage with and be proficient in the use of technology

    ·Demonstrate a commitment to high quality teaching and learning by supporting initiatives within the Department

    ·Energy, stamina, and a sense of humour

    ·Have a passion for education and excellence; to accept responsibility; show in their actions and decisions firmness, fairness, consistency, and integrity

    Qualifications & Compliance

    ·Must have a Science related degree, ideally in Physics

    ·Expertise and academic competence; the ability to seek, review, apply and share best practice. Many of the students who choose Physics do not have English as a first language. Previous experience of teaching international students would therefore be an advantage.

    ·UK QTS is essential for this position

    ·Right to work full-time – sponsorship is not offered for this role

    ·Enhanced DBS Certificate
