We are looking to appoint a full time, well-organised and motivated person to join the Manchester Fertility Laboratory and Semovo Donor Bank teams.

If you are successful in being appointed to this role, your time will be equally allocated between the Andrology and Semovo teams.

You will perform routine diagnostic semen analysis and cryopreservation, data collection, donor recruitment and administrative tasks. The post is full-time and will include participation in a weekend rota.

The role would suit an individual with at least one year's experience of working in an IVF laboratory although full training will be provided.


Key Responsibilities

  • To be completely confidential in all matters pertaining to Semovo and Manchester Fertility, and adhere to the guidelines of the regulatory bodies
  • To work under the supervision of the Head of Laboratory and the Andrology Services Manager.
  • Perform Diagnostic Semen Analysis and cryopreservation for both patients and donors
  • Booking sperm donors and other Andrology administrative tasks
  • Participate in all areas of sperm donor recruitment from enquiry and assessment through to acceptance of sperm donors
  • Manage sperm donation from Semovo's numerous satellite clinics, (Leeds, Liverpool, Wigan, Manchester City Centre, Glasgow)
  • Maintain accurate laboratory, patient and donor records using MedITEX software
  • Maintain donor sperm stock control using MedITEX software
  • Process donor sales to third party clinics and patients of third party clinics
  • Coordinate shipping, receiving and deposition of cryopreserved donated sperm
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Andrology and Semovo Teams.
  • Participation in Performance Management Process
  • Perform Venepuncture for screening of sperm donors
  • Maintenance and cleaning of the laboratory

Essential Requirements:


  • A Life Sciences degree and preferably 1 years' experience working in an ART laboratory
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good physical dexterity with excellent handeye coordination and manipulation skills
  • Computer literacy including experience with the use of databases and spreadsheets
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Good analytical and judgement skills
  • Good administrative and recordkeeping skills
  • A full clean driving licence

Desirable requirements:


  • Knowledge of current regulations and legislation, including the HFEA Code of Practice
  • Experience of working in a regulated laboratory environment with quality assurance
  • Experience of working within the andrology field
  • Knowledge and practical experience of aseptic technique
  • Venepuncture
