As part of the Residential Environmental Health Team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding tenants and enhancing the quality of private sector housing.

Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to service requests and complaints, taking appropriate followup actions.
- Conduct inspections of properties, identify hazards, and assess health and safety risks.
- Utilize enforcement powers, including notices, cautions, civil penalty notices, and prosecutions.
- Secure improvements in standards and management of private rented housing.
- Investigate unlicensed properties, including HMOs, and ensure compliance with licensing schemes.
- Maintain comprehensive records, including inspection records and followup actions.
- Use data and intelligence to support service objectives.
- Carry out duties in accordance with legal requirements and internal procedures.
- Collect, prepare, and present evidence at court hearings and property tribunals.
- Maintain good working relationships with internal and external agencies, landlords, and partners.
- Provide professional support and advice, representing the team at various forums.
- Stay updated on environmental health legislation, codes of practice, and technical requirements.
- Participate in service operations, policy development, and awarenessraising activities.
- Occasionally work outside normal office hours to meet service demands.
- Assist with training and development of staff and trainees in the team.
- Assist and deputize for the Environmental Health Manager as required.
- Achieve agreed service outcomes, personal appraisal targets, and participate in training and events.
- Carry out duties in compliance with the council's commitment to customer service excellence.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner and/or possess a degree or diploma in Environmental Health with the Environmental Health Registration Board's Certificate of Registration.
Experience:
- Investigating complaints about poor housing conditions and securing remedial action.
- Conducting housing inspections to identify noncompliance with private sector housing legislation and taking enforcement action.
Skills:
- Knowledge of housing defects, remedial action, Housing Act 2004, relevant legislation, HHSRS, Property Licensing, and LACORS Fire Safety Standards.
- Investigation and enforcement skills, including evidence collection and presentation.
- Organizational skills, ability to meet targets and deadlines.
- IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Communication skills, including writing reports and letters, and explaining housing requirements to diverse audiences.
- Teamwork, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Adherence to the Council's Dignity for All policy.
