    OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

    Permanent Full-time / Freelance and Intern applications also considered

    We are seeking highly motivated and talented individuals with expertise in ecology / ornithology, and with experience in either consultancy and/or regulatory sectors and/or applied data analysis, or the hunger to develop these skills. The role will involve leading field surveys and mitigation projects relating to ornithology; however, you may also be involved in a wider range of ecology surveys, including mammals, herpetofauna, invertebrate and habitats surveys. You will also be assisting with data input, analysis, research and report writing - gaining experience in renewable energy project delivery.

    We are considering all levels, so this position would suit anyone currently working as an Ecologist/ Ornithologist, (Senior, Principal or Consultant / Senior Consultant / Principal Consultant and recent graduates in Ecology/ Ornithology). We would also consider Junior/Graduate applications with a desire to grow their career in this area and willing to join us for a 3 - 6-month internship in our Muscat office.

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Duties will include:


    • Assisting with and leading on ecology/ornithology surveys, following a range of survey methodologies and techniques.


    • Keeping accurate field notes (including in digital format) in accordance with the principles of scientific data collection and handling, recording and storing data effectively.


    • Data analysis and presentation, desk-based study and collating relevant available data and drafting baseline technical reports.


    • Project management, data collation, collection, analysis and reporting

    o Scheduling new projects and allocating resources.

    o Coordinating team schedules.

    o Ensuring project delivery and surveys are executed in accordance with contractual and legislative obligations, such as HSE requirements, professional qualifications, equipment specifications, achieving site access passes, etc.

    o Ensuring timely delivery of project deliverables, including their QA/QC.

    o Managing team resources and identifying if and where additional resources, whether internal or external, may be required.

    You will need to be able to work effectively and proactively within a multi-cultural team with a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving operating environment. You will have the potential and desire to grow and develop in your role, including developing technical understanding and pursuing continued professional development opportunities. We expect you will contribute to the long-term ambition to grow the business in the years to come.

    THE KEY REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST:

    The grade of the position will depend on the experience of the applicant; however, an overview of essential requirements is provided below:


    • A BSc in Ecology, Biological Science/ Ornithology or equivalent (MSc desirable).


    • Excellent bird identification skills and the ability to demonstrate experience in a range of ornithology survey techniques (e.g. vantage points, breeding birds, raptors).


    • An understanding of scientific data collection methods and an aptitude for accurate and clear recording and storage of data.


    • Experience of working and navigating safely in remote environments and in high temperatures (i.e. 40oC + during summer periods).


    • Driving Licence


    • A good theoretical grounding in ecology, survey guidance and environmental assessment.


    • A good understanding of Scottish wildlife legislation

    · Consultancy, government (i.e., regulator) academic or developer experience

    · Knowledge of, or experience in renewable energy e.g. wind farms) such as project planning, project processes, risk management, customer/client liaison, problem solving and project budgeting

    · Demonstratable experience of delivering high quality analytical and written work in academic or consultancy

    · A working understanding of international standards (e.g. IFC) or international working environment in developing country contexts

    · Experience of developing written and commercial proposals or quotations in response to client requirements

    · Ability to negotiate effectively with individuals, partners and clients and convey information/data clearly, such as in tenders, reports, knowledge sharing etc.

    EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

    This is a permanent, full-time position routinely Sunday to Thursday (Oman working week).
