Southwark YOS Clinical Specialist

A great opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 YOS/ CAMHS Practitioner to work within the Southwark YJS Team.


You will be working as park of a specialist and highly skilled multi-agency team, providing reports to support court assessments, completing neurodevelopmental assessments and risk management plans along with quality therapeutic interventions.

The Child and adolescent YOS Clinical specialist will provide high quality mental health service to families who have become involved with the Youth offending service.

This is a community-based post, located within the local CAMHS.

Predominantly this service will be delivered within the YOS and will include the provision of specialist advice/consultation and CAMHS mental health assessment, with specific emphasis on adolescents with complex and severe mental health problems.

It will also include liaison with other agencies, specialized clinical interventions and support, clinical supervision and teaching to multi-agency staff and students.


Ensure efficient and effective delivery of CAMHS in Southwark YOS, including high quality, safe and responsive specialist mental health services to adolescents presenting with complex emotional and behavioral health needs in a youth justice setting.


You will work in partnership with the Southwark CYPS, Youth Offending Service, the police, core CAMHS teams and other partner agencies to support integrated practice and service delivery.

Your role will involve undertaking CAMHS assessments and care co
- ordination of young people in a community setting, including mental health risk assessments for young people known to YOS with support of YOS Clinical Team, and senior clinicians and psychiatric input from MDT.

You will manage your own caseload and provide assessment and treatment to young people and their families referred by Southwark CYPS and YOS.

You will work with several internal and external professional networks to ensure that individual care plans and treatment for children across agencies are co
- ordinated effectively and efficiently. This will involve working in partnership with other agencies in Southwark to support integrated practice and service delivery.


You will also train and advise YOS officers on emerging mental health symptoms in an adolescent population and be knowledgeable about the connection between offending, mental illness and substance misuse.
