    Senior / Principal Water Engineer

    We are looking for Senior and Principal Water Engineers to join our Wastewater Consultancy team. We aim to grow our people, benefit our environment and enjoy what we do.

    From strategy development and business planning support to solution development, testing, optimisation, and design, we offer a full range of water services built on our deep expertise in hydraulic and water quality modelling, and we are currently in the market to recruit professionals with a background in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering to join our team at a Senior and Principal level.

    Join us and you will work on a prestigious AMP8 Asset Management Programme, driven by the Storm Overflows Discharge Reduction Plan and the Water Framework Directive, to plan, design and deliver solutions to reduce storm overflow discharges to the environment and improve water quality at over 400 combined sewer overflow locations in the North of England. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to undertake optioneering and select preferred options from a range of solutions, from storage to surface water separation, and produce outline design packages and planning submission packs, including all required supporting information. This programme of work will continue into AMP9 and beyond, securing your career for the next 20 years.

    About The Team:

    RPS Water Consulting is a team of Engineers, Modellers and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development, to our Water Industry clients to support business planning and delivery. This is an evolving industry, providing challenges and opportunities which require innovation, dedication, and teamwork to help us meet our clients' needs.

    About You:

  • We are looking for ambitious engineering professionals with a background in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering with a passion for problem-solving and the experience to lead a team.
  • Expertise in wastewater infrastructure or similar, taking responsibility for delivery of specialist, complex or innovative projects, ensuring client and design standards and specification compliance, and production of quality plans.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and manage staff at all levels, including line management of less experienced colleagues, ability to improve organisational effectiveness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build, lead and motivate a team both internally and in partnership with external clients, and provide technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients.
  • Chartered membership in relevant professional institutions (ICE, CIWEM, IMechE, IOW or equivalent) would be an advantage.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject
  • Working knowledge of the Construction and Design Management (CDM) regulations 2015.
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Working knowledge of GIS Systems (MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Experience using AutoCAD, MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM, FME or Optimatics is an advantage.
  • Hold a full clean driving licence. Travelling to the site and client and/or other RPS/Tetra Tech offices may be required.
  • Your Responsibilities:

  • Technical development and delivery of wastewater solutions, being involved in all design stages including optioneering, feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design, and preparing reports and technical specifications.
  • Leadership of multi-discipline project teams to build, maintain and manage strong and collaborative working relationships with clients and wider RPS/Tetra Tech disciplines. Delivering a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure projects such as (but not limited to) storm overflow discharge reduction, SuDS and surface water separation, flood alleviation, asset optimisation and other projects requiring detailed technical analysis. Responsibility for: day-to-day leadership and direction for team, workload planning and prioritisation, provision of technical direction and support, driving staff performance and motivation.
  • Ensuring quality of outputs and compliance with standards, specifications and governance requirements.
  • Responsible for commercial performance, forecasting and risk management. Management of all health and safety, quality and environmental aspects of projects.
