What you'll be doing:


In the brand-new role of New Solutions Development Manager, you will play a key role in developing control solutions through the use of Sterile Insect Technique (SIT).

Leading on R&D projects, you will identify new solutions and establish targets, both individualand for the broader team.

Managing the insectary, you will lead your team of scientists and lab assistants on experiments whilst also maintaining insect production.

Acting as a leader, you will both motivate and inspire your team, encouraging progress and creating a positive and constructive team culture.

In addition to supporting juniors, you will also have numerous opportunities for personal growth and skill development,rising through the ranks as the company continues to expand and impress the entomology sector.


You will be:

  • Developing future pest control solutions from desk through to labbased research and preparation prior to field trials.
  • Procuring and maintaining colonies of insect species.
  • Building and developing a team of scientists and lab assistants.
  • Developing, implementing, and improving processes to produce and quality control sterile insects for numerous species.
  • Planning and executing experiment programs to provide actionable results on individualised rearing, sexsorting, and sterilisation.
  • Coordinating with other program leaders to manage production of insects to ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicating with a variety of audiences to discuss project progress and results.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks related to insectary maintenance, colony monitoring, and quality assurance. This will be supported with documented SOPs and risk assessments.

What experience you'll need to apply:
This role will be perfect for you if you have:

  • A Masters or PhD in Entomology or similar field.
  • Proven experience working with and rearing insects, in settings beyond academia.
  • Experience training junior personnel in insect rearing activities. You will have experience as a leader, supporting a team with skill advancement.
  • A track record in managing a team within an insectary or similar.
  • Experience organising, prioritising, and completing work to high standards and meeting tight deadlines.
  • A good understanding of data processing and statistical analysis. Any understanding of R and/or Python is desirable, though Excel experience alone is sufficient.
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office family, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What you'll get in return for your experience:
In addition to the competitive base salary banding of £40,000-£55,000 (dependent on experience), you will also receive:

Core working hours are 9-5:30pm with half an hour for lunch. This is a full-time (37.5 hours) permanent position.
