A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Procurement & Contract Management Service for a motivated and experienced Procurement Lead professional to join Bristol City Council, a diverse and ambitious organisation with a £1bn+ p.a.

revenue budget and £1bn capital programme.

Bristol City Council is seeking to recruit an experienced Procurement Leader responsible for leading and delivering procurement category management across the council, which includes,

  • People (Children's & Families, Education, Adults & Public Health),
  • Growth & Regeneration (Buildings, Structures, Housing & Highways) and
  • Resources (Goods & Services, ICT, Professional Services & Legal Services)

What will I be doing?

You will have overall lead responsibility for:

  • Leading a high quality procurement and related commercial contract advice and support service, compliant with legislation, council policies and objectives
  • Leading the delivery of the procurement pipeline planning and procurement strategy in a manner that supports and compliments the wider objectives of the council
- bringing in-depth market intelligence to influence annual spend across categories in order to optimise competitive tension, leverage supplier relationships and deliver a complex portfolio of tendering and commercial activity
- provide expert professional advice and guidance to your teams, elected Members, Service Directors and employees, ensuring that trusted procurement and commercial advice and support contributes to decision making.


What do I need to have?
Qualified to graduate and/or full professional level in an appropriate discipline, e.g.

MCIPS or equivalent recognised commercial qualification, or extensive proven experience in a procurement / commercial setting which would demonstrably satisfy MCIPS through a management entry route.

Expert knowledge and experience of procurement and category management

Comprehensive knowledge of Public Procurement law, government policy, Public Contract Regulations (2015), contract management practice and procurement best practice.

You should be a highly self motivated, multi tasker with an eye for detail and compliance. A problem solver with excellent communication skills enabling them align and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.


We need someone that Ability to lead and manage a vast team whilst, inspiring and motivating people across a whole service.

This is a FULL TIME role, 37 hours per week and is a permanent contract until. Your working days will be Monday to Friday.
