£44,195 - £50,611 depending on skills & experience + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As part of SSEN Distribution, the Design and Land Consents Team support the delivery, network integrity and new connections teams across three regions in the North of Scotland area by producing a coordinated and coherent detailed design for a range of schemes on the 33KV, 11KV and LV networks.

To ensure that this continues to run efficiently and effectively, we have an excellent opportunity to join us as an Overhead Line Surveyor supporting the established teams centred around Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, Aberdeen and Dundee.


As a Surveyor you will responsible for surveying existing and new overhead line routes to support and ensure their design is compliant with SSEN specifications and standards, before transferring this information on to suitable drawings, profiles and schedules for construction purposes.

This design will ensure the network is constructed robustly and cost effectively whilst eliminating health, safety and financial risks during an asset's lifecycle.

You will work as part of a team to provide a value engineered design that meets all engineering specifications.


Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Carry out route assessments for site suitability and accessibility.
  • Survey and identify required structures to meet engineering policies and standards.
  • Identify, document and mitigate site risks.
  • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including customers, designers, land consent officers and project managers.
  • This is a physical job, involves lone working and requires travel across the whole of Scotland.

What do I need?:

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A basic knowledge of overhead line construction from LV to 33kV.
  • Possess an HNC or equivalent experience within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Be experienced in the use of Leica GPS and Total Station surveying as well as the use of AutoCAD and Electric Office software, however training will be provided as necessary.
  • Hold a full, current driving licence as you will be making site visits, 4 X 4 training would be advantageous.
  • Be a responsible individual with a strong attitude towards safety and environmental issues, having the ability to carry out detailed point of work risk assessments whilst working to tight timescales.
