Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated doctor for the post of Trust Grade Registrar in General Surgery, for 1 year appointment with a possibility of extension.

This post is on the registrar rota.


Although this post is not recognised for training, the post-holder will benefit from all the terms and conditions of a Specialist Registrar post.

The post will cover general surgery, upper and lower GI surgery.


The Department of Surgery offers laparoscopic and open upper and colorectal surgical services as well as the full range of endoscopy (including ERCP).

The Registrars work mainly with the General Surgeons as the Breast Service is primarily Consultant delivered.

To attend ward rounds, operating lists and assist in outpatient clinics.


To be responsible for the daily management and general surgical care of all patients admitted under the appropriate Consultant, supervising and teaching the junior staff.

On call (rota 1:13)


To attend local induction on commencement of duty in a new department or if working has not been undertaken in the Department in the previous 6 months.


Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust is an Acute District Hospital providing a service to approximately 360,000 people with 600 beds.

Since becoming a Foundation Trust in 2008, the hospital has embarked on a programme of progressive development and innovation.


Recent developments include:
£18m Short Stay Surgery Centre - The Treatment Centre. £4.7m Cardiac Centre and a 24/7 Regional Emergency service for people having heart attacks. £30m extension to the main hospital block providing extended ICU/HDU/CCU facilities and paediatric department which opened in April 2013.

Kettering town is at the heart of the UK's largest growth area outside London.

With its central location, you can reach all major cities with relative ease and London in less than 1 hour by rail.

By road, the area offers everything from traditional market towns to charming villages and picturesque countryside and has excellent educational and leisure facilities.

The Registrars work mainly with the General Surgeons as the Breast Service is primarily Consultant delivered.

Although the registrars are assigned to a named consultant, all Registrars duties are assigned on a weekly basis to cover duties within the surgical unit.


The Trust Grade will be responsible for the daily management and general surgical care of all patients admitted under the appropriate Consultant, supervising and teaching the junior staff.

To attend ward rounds, operating lists and assist in outpatient clinics.

Annual and Study Leave is with prior arrangement and there is internal prospective cover on each surgical firm.


To attend local induction on commencement of duty in a new department or if working has not been undertaken in the Department in the previous 6 months.


ROTA
The rota is a 13 person shift system.


In emergencies and exceptional circumstances the Trust Grade will be expected to provide cover for the absences of colleagues, provided the resulting increase in workload is reasonable in the circumstances.

Whilst the Trust Grade will be expected to prospectively cover Registrar colleagues in the normal run of his/her duties within his/her contract, work outside contracted hours performed under these circumstances will be payable at standard duties.
