    Job summary

    We are looking for a Medical secretary who will be responsible for supporting the clinical team in delivering high quality patient care and ensuring a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service is provided to the medical staff and their teams. The post holder will report to the Specialty Co-ordinator and ensure the CQUIN typing target and validation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

    We have one vacancy within the department of the Clinical Support Services, Business Unit. This position is for hrs per week. Working alongside medical secretaries and supporting the Consultants and their teams. There are also Medical Secretarial Assistants. The Department is always busy with something to do.

    Main duties of the job

    Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources. The Medical Secretary isthe hub of effective patient administration in the Business Unit.

    The Medical Secretary:- Ensures a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service is provided to the medical staff and their supporting team- Provides cover for colleagues in their absence to maintain service levels- Notifies the Specialty Co-ordinator of any booking rule changes so that clinics and theatres are updated- Co-ordinates the elective access process with the Elective Access Clerk and ensures that all available capacity is used- Highlights current & future capacity problems ( when referrals rise or case mix changes) to managers & clinicians- Works with the Specialty Co-ordinators regularly to ensure the whole of the patient pathway runs smoothly with minimal delays ensuring the Trust achieves locally and nationally agreed standards- Actively manages patient waiting lists and ensures patient pathways are updated to minimise validation backlogs and data quality issues- Regularly validates to ensure data quality

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE English Language Grade C or equivalent
  • Typing, Audio and Word/Text Processing skills to RSA III or equivalent knowledge acquired through further experience
  • Desirable

  • Medical secretary qualifications
  • 4 GCSE Grade C or equivalent
  • NVQ III or equivalent
  • AMSPAR - Medical Terminology Certificate
  • Stage 1 - Management Development or equivalent
  • Shorthand minimum 90 wpm
  • D32/33 Assessor Award or equivalent
  • Previous Experience

    Essential

  • Recent Medical Secretarial experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of PAS
  • Knowledge of 18 week RTT pathway
  • Knowledge, Skills & Aptitudes

    Essential

  • Ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to achieve deadlines
