Provide Consultant input and contribute as member of the clinical leadership team of the Complex Emotional Needs service. Provide Consultant input to triage system for referrals into CEN service as required. Provide clinical assessments of patients as necessary.

Assist with diagnosis, medication reviews, management plans, risk assessments, crisis plans and safety plans for patients with complex emotional needs within the service.

Provide follow up as necessary for patients within teams.

When acting as Approved Clinician to take consultant responsibility and oversee assessment and management of patients, including medication regimes, advising and working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Work with CEN service to develop a collaborative care model for patients with presentations falling within the remit of the team, working closely with the Leads in Psychotherapy and Psychological Therapies to integrate input from psychotherapy and clinical psychology in the care of patients under MINT.

Support the MDT in their diagnosis, management and treatment of patients through case discussions, joint consultations supervision and bespoke training.

Maintain effective communication with GPs, patients and their carers. To provide clinical input to multi-disciplinary case conferencing around complex patients. Provide supervision to trainees.

To support the Service/Team manager in monitoring and assessing the performance of the team, the further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.

The post holder will be Section 12(2) approved and have approved clinician status.

They will participate in the West London consultant on call rota and will act as RC/AC for patients on Community Treatment Order in the service.

Work in partnership with the leadership team on all aspects of service development, assuring a safe system of practice for all clinical components of the service.

The post holder will have 10 PAs.


The overall split of the programmed activities is 7.5 PAs direct clinical care, and 2.5 PAs of Supporting Professional Activities.

The post carries carry an on call consultant commitment of 1:24 and a 3% uplift is provided in recompense.

First on-call cover is provided by the Core Trainees and VTS trainees who provide cover for the mental health inpatient unit and the Emergency Department.

There is second on-call cover provided by the ST4-6 trainees.


The post holder will have access to and be able to contribute to the local academic programme at Ealing in addition to Trust wide CPD events for Consultants organised by the Medial Director and Postgraduate Department.

The Trust hosts a regular Big-MAC (Medical Advisory Committee) with a broad range of internal and national/international renowned speakers. The post holder will be a member of the Ealing Medical Advisory Committee (MAC). The MAC plays an important role in providing advice to the Trust management on operational and strategic matters.
