The Technical Trainer has a primary focus on training delivery and a step change in the volume of employer led technical training, whilst maintaining quality and real-world student outcomes.

Where Factory International takes on Creative Venue Technicians, they will continue to be supported by department heads, with the Technical Trainer offering end point assessment, rather than being deployed in this area.

The Technical Trainer will deliver inhouse technical training to new entrants.

Covering a broad range of key skills, and co-ordinating master classes for key professions within the building (from freelance & touring professionals to key core staff).


They will supervise Factory Academy students working at a slower pace on part of a real fit up, enabling the students to be in the room, at an early stage of their training.


Whilst reporting into the Technical Manager for line management purposes, this role will also work closely with The Factory Academy.

Key responsibilities for the Technical Trainer role are;

  • They will work alongside the Technical Production team and lead the development of content for new programs that are practical, interactive and which deliver a high ROI for inhouse technical training to new entrants, The Factory Academy and for key professions working within the building (from freelance & touring professionals to key core staff)
  • Providing quality training material which meets specific requested requirements, including design, train the trainer support and evaluation techniques
  • Promoting and expanding learning and development opportunities across Production and Operations, wider staff at FI and the consortium
  • Determine training needs (TNA)
  • Development and support of training governance, provide training reports and track the progress of training for governance and reporting purposes
  • Ability to provide innovative training techniques which mirror or lead current industry trends and standards (including use of Viva platform)
  • Actively involved in corrective action followups when applicable
  • Lead the project to scope the potential for tracking training records, and in particular scoping a standardised induction, with elements required by the wider Greater Manchester employer network
The person specification for the Technical Trainer role is;

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience as a technician (could be within lighting, sound, stage, installation or other relevant areas)
  • Ability to be proactive and possession of strong interpersonal and research skills
  • Ability to resolve issues and drive training initiatives independently and within the team environment
  • Experience of successfully delivering training
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent
  • Willing to get take relevant statutory checks eg DBS (Factory International can support with processing and payment)

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of delivering on the job training to technicians (formal train the trainer training to be provided as part of job role)
  • Relevant training qualification
