Document Controller - Inside IR35**
Contract Term: 12 months

Contracting Authority:
Nuclear Waste Services**
Location: Hybrid - Harwell/Cumbria once per month, the remainder
remote.

Nuclear Waste Services brings together the UK's leading nuclear waste management capabilities.


We have integrated the expertise of Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR), Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group's Integrated Waste Management Programme (IWMP).

This creates an organisation focused on the management of the UK's nuclear waste, safely and securely for generations to come.

We are part of the NDA group, which is undertaking the biggest clean-up project in Europe over many decades.

Nuclear Waste Services is integral to this environmental clean-up mission, as we work to provide permanent answers to our country's nuclear waste.

The UK has been producing and managing radioactive waste on an industrial scale since the 1940s. However, today's approach and capabilities for waste management need to adapt to keep pace with NDA's decommissioning ambitions.

This includes its commitment to recycle 50% of waste from decommissioning and reduce secondary wastes by around 70% by 2030.


This role is a direct report to the Document Control Team Leader and is accountable for the maintenance, development, and continual improvements of document management for the full organisation ensuring that the business information is adequately and efficiently managed through their life cycle.


As our Document Controller, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Engaging with the business, guide and assist in supporting the implementation of the document control methodology. Give advice, leadership, and direction on all document management tasks.
  • Reviewing, archiving or destroying documented information in line with the company policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that document management systems are developed, maintained and meet Nuclear Waste Services, regulatory, stakeholder and customer needs.
  • Using indepth knowledge of the different roles within document management and to guide each role accordingly.
  • Fully embedded into the endtoend life cycle of document management, from creating a document, numbering, publishing, version control, review and withdrawal.
  • The point of contact for all document control issues and to deal with them in a professional manner. Actively monitoring the health of document management for NWS.
  • Reviewing submitted documentation and prepare document metrics and deliver when and if required.
  • Issuing controlled copies and transmittals as and when required ensuring that the associated trackers are kept up to date.
  • Preparing reports for the overall heath and status of documentation, making sure support is given to address risks and mitigate issues.
  • Delivering set document management objectives and targets.
  • Achieving and exceed set turnaround targets for document control and production activities.
Regularly provide updates when required against key targets and deliver to the business when required.

  • Using your attention to detail to ensure documents are accurate and following the correct governance.

  • Active, current SC clearance.
  • Experience working with management systems and document management toolsets.
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills and fully competent in Microsoft office Software.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be flexible.
  • Good organisation skills
  • Experience with SharePoint and understanding of workflows.
  • Ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise.
  • Understanding of different artifacts (Drawings, Process Maps, Word documents etc),

It's desirable but non-essential you also have the following:

  • Knowledge and experience working against ISO 900
  • Experience of auditing
  • Understanding of compliance needs and following governance.

As of the 31 January 2022, Nuclear Waste Services has been set up to combine all of the NDA Waste activities, giving greater flexibility and driving improvements and synergies across the NDA Group.

This brings together LLW Repository Limited, Radioactive Waste Management Limited and the NDA Integrated Waste Management Programme (each with their own IT teams, infrastructure, and systems).
