About the Role
1We are seeking an experienced National Standard Instructor to oversee an annual programme of cycle training for both adults and children for the Kingston and Sutton Shared Environment Service. As part of a team your responsibilities will include coordinating bookings, liaising with schools and instructors, managing training schedules and producing monitoring reports. As part of our commitment to quality assurance you will also deliver cycle training on a regular basis.
Kingston is a Recognised Delivery Centre (RDC), delivering the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Teaching Cycle Training. Pending expansion of our RDC service, you would train as a Qualified Tutor and Assessor Level 3 Award in Developing Cycle Training Instructors .
You will be part of a supportive team, providing a well structured and comprehensive cycling programme. The role includes:
Kingston and Sutton are growing boroughs. By the population of the boroughs is expected to increase by 30 per cent. That's over 75, extra people who will need to move around for purposes including work, leisure and education. Sustainable travel is key to accommodating that growth and ensuring the continued success of the borough whilst the space available for travelling remains the same.
You will be part of the Sustainable Transport Team delivering a shared service for Kingston and Sutton. Among other services we provide Road Safety education and training, organise Sustainable Travel campaigns and events, and oversee School Crossing Patrol and Cycle Training services.
The Kingston and Sutton Shared Environment Service is a registered Bikeability provider, delivering best practice as set by the National Standard, the Government's approved cycle training scheme to get "more people cycling, more safely and more often."
About You 1You must be working toward the Level 2 Award in Cycle Training qualification (Provisional or in full) and have at least 2 years' continuous experience delivering cycle training to the National Standard.

Delivering cycle training and supporting instructors
Your primary duties involve ensuring compliance with National Standard guidelines while cultivating each instructor's unique and confident approach. You will enhance cycling experiences for adults and children in Kingston and Sutton, delivering Bikeability to mainstream school children in years 5 and 6. Additionally, you will lead inclusive sessions for pupils and adults with diverse needs, including those with physical and educational requirements and refugee status.
Good computer skills
Our system uses Google applications. Our cycle training events require a systematic setup process for resource allocation and rider registration through entry forms, spreadsheet and links to relevant information. You will enable instructors and schools to have remote access to this system so they can input essential information before and after each event. The data you collect will be used for reporting directly to stakeholders both internally and externally including The Bikeability Trust and Transport for London for targets and budget purposes.
Monitoring skills
Continuous monitoring of consents, commitments, and outcomes of each event is essential to guarantee effective reporting and budget management. You will keep a close eye on parents and residents registration and rider's training outcomes. You will also seek regular feedback from stakeholders to allow us to assess the impact and success of our events.
Ability to work in a team and independently
The ability to work in a team is crucial as you will actively support the Sustainable Transport Team. You will collaborate to develop new cycling initiatives as well as supporting other sustainable transport themed events. You will also need the ability to work independently and take the initiative, conducting your own session and while supporting other instructors on the ground. Each day will often involve multitasking and present diverse challenges requiring juggling responsibilities with schools, instructors, project management and monitoring data for reporting.
It would be helpful if you have:
Level 3 Award in Training Cycle Instructors. We are a Registered Delivery Centre and run cycle training courses for internal and external applicants.
