The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service (RSS) will provide all researchers, especially those in receipt of NIHR funding, with access to support, advice and expertise in the development and delivery of clinical and applied health and care research; as well as supporting the development of capacity in areas of current and future need to ensure research design and methodology keeps pace with new technologies and ways of conducting research.


We are looking for a highly driven and organised person to take on the role of NIHR RSS Communications Officer.

You will work across all four partner institutions and contribute to the successful establishment of the service, including developing and delivering a digital communication strategy and launch campaign.


Duties and responsibilities:

You will lead on all NIHR RSS hub communication activities, including:

  • Developing and launching the communication strategy, working closely with the NIHR RSS Central Coordinator and Operational Director.
  • Raising and maintaining the profile of NIHR RSS Imperial College London and Partners Hub including the NIHR RSS Methods Academy.
  • Ensuring all material and activities shared are accurate, accessible and on brand.
  • Creating and supporting the creation of all website and social media content and the coordination and promotion of the NIHR RSS Hub activities.
  • Developing training material and events relating to communication strategies and best practice for RSS London advisers and experts.

Essential requirements:


You will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • A degree in health, science or media related field, or relevant vocational qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of delivering a digital communication plan
  • Experience of developing communications material
  • Knowledge of relevant communications software and platforms

  • The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview._
