As Assistant Buyer drawing on your experience you'll demonstrate an understanding of financial risks and see opportunities. You'll confidently build relationships with suppliers working together to deliver the M&S strategy.


Key Capabilities
Key accountabilities and Measures

  • Understand the P&L for the category buying area (within produce), understand financial risks and opportunities
  • Support the category to drive sales and profit in line with operating plan budgets understanding impact of waste, promotional participation, commercial deals
  • Become a 'go to' member of the team who understands our reporting and system capability to extract Sales, Volume, Supplier intake and Waste data at top line and store level
  • Understand and lead data to determine product cost breakdown including the impact of currency, logistics, cost of labour, pack house efficiency, production efficiency, overhead
  • Execute process (set out by the Trading manager and Senior Buyer) and progress to deliver our new sourcing models
  • Support the Category team and Suppliers in completing JBPs
  • Work collaboratively and enjoy working with the supply base to track project and workstream process
  • Handle commercial programmes to accelerate success within the category.
  • Be part of the category and PHF buying team (buyer, product developer, technologist, agronomist, supply chain demand planner, category planner) in delivery of the category objectives
  • Be confident to build relationships with suppliers through engagement, tracking KPI's and together working towards the M&S strategy.
  • An understanding of GSCOP guidance) and how to put in place process to handle suppliers and communication effectively and fairly
  • Ability to use and adapt to new systems and reporting tools, an openness to learn
Key Skills

You are keen and able to build good relationships with the category teams. You have strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to analyse commercial and customer information. You have good reporting skills and ability to handle and organise data. You have a collaborative approach to working with your team. You have excellent attention to detail and your strong organisation skills give you the ability to prioritise effectively.
