    Introduction

    You will be working in the Select Committee Team (SCT) supporting the work of the International Development Select Committee. Select Committees are cross-party committees of MPs who examine government policy and spending. You can find out what Select Committees are on .

    The Role

    Senior specialists provide research and policy support to select committees and the wider Select Committee Team. You will be the first point of contact for the Committee Chair and Members for questions which require expert knowledge in International Development Policy. You will work autonomously to develop and manage select committee inquiries; identifying the topics, planning the inquiry programme, identifying potential witnesses and organising meetings and hearings. You will produce high-quality, concise and accessible written and oral briefing directly to Chairs, Members and senior colleagues. You will work collaboratively to quality assure briefing material and drafts that go to the chair and committee and to support committee specialists on the IDC team and within the wider International Relations and National Security Hub who are working on development policy.

    Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Being the main point of contact for advice to the Chair and Members regarding detailed questions of International Development policy.
  • Policy leadership in your subject area, enabling you to take a strategic view of international development policy, identifying risks and opportunities, and suggesting priorities to the Committee and colleagues within the Team and wider Hub;
  • Managing committee inquiries autonomously, with an eye to wider Committee objectives, planning the inquiry programme, proposing witnesses and organising meetings and hearings and producing any documents required;
  • Quality assuring policy material produced by other members of the team, including briefing material, draft correspondence, and reports where appropriate;
