    Eastern Virginia Medical School

    Reporting to the Librarian II, Reference and Outreach Coordinator, the Librarian I, Clinical Medical and Reference fulfills a myriad of services for the Reference and Outreach department.

    Responsibilities include answering reference questions, research consultation, attends rounds at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters to answer any clinical research related questions, conducts systematic reviews and scoping reviews, provides outreach and orientations of the library, creates research guides, and performs additional tasks as needed within the department.

    The Librarian I, Clinical Medical and Reference also serves on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at EVMS.

    Works with the library team to select, books, catalogs, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, audiovisual material, microforms, journal reprints and other materials for collection development.

    Answers reference questions and provides literature searches for patient care or research from students, faculty, staff, and community members.

    Provides library orientations for faculty, fellows, and residents.
    Conducts health literacy training for the Hampton Roads community.
    Develops library videos in support of outreach and teaching.
    Assists with creating and maintaining library research guides.
    Maintains and submits monthly billing and search logs.
    Works daily shifts at the Information Desk and serves on the on-call library rotation.
    Provides user education and orientation.
    Participates in the Clinical Medical Librarian (CML) program.
    Trains other workers engaged in using library resources.
    Works with integrated library system and document delivery system.
    Performs routine clerical functions of filing, photocopying, and mailing of reference and research materials.

    Ability to deal with others in a direct honest manner and comply with all EVMS policies and procedures, and relevant government regulations.

    Ability to exemplify openness to ideas, teamwork, transparency in communication, customer service, and integrates contributions with an inclusive approach to creative problem-solving.

    Understand and apply professional core values established by the American Library Association into the workplace: Access to information, Confidentiality/Privacy, Democracy, Diversity, Education and Lifelong Learning, Intellectual Freedom, Acting in the Public Good, Preservation, Professionalism, Service, Social Responsibility, and Sustainability.

    Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library school required.
    Minimum of two years library experience.
    Competencies in library computing applications including, but not limited to, online bibliographic searching, and use of Internet-based resources.
    Completed coursework in health science librarianship or other health sciences training

    Standard office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM as approved by supervisor.

    The library collects, organizes and provides access to a strong medical and health sciences collection to meet the current and anticipated needs of our users.

    In addition, our staff strive to provide excellent service in reference, research, and instruction to our students, staff, faculty, residents and fellows, and through outreach to the Hampton Roads community, health care professionals, and others.
