About the Department

1
***As part of a University of Warwick Strategic Investment Funded initiative, the School for Cross-Faculty Studies is developing a new suite of courses with Design at their heart. The new interdisciplinary offering will sit in the School for Cross-Faculty Studies, which is home to a range of the University's inter
- and transdisciplinary degree courses.

Currently, these comprise the undergraduate Liberal Arts and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) programmes and our recently launched postgraduate taught courses in GSD and Community Engagement and Belonging as well as our PhD in GSD.

All of our courses are designed to be interactive learning experiences; placing our students as collaborators and co-creators in the classroom.

Our new courses aim to offer students the opportunity to develop a diverse design practice within a broader philosophical, political, economic and social context appropriate for tackling the contemporary issues related to environmental instability and the subsequent impact this has on global life.

The courses will introduce students to broad principles of design theory and practice from which they can then develop their intellectual and design practice within their own particular research interests.

Students will explore and work with the contemporary design profession and professionals; identifying their own trajectory within the broad range of existing practice, as well as being able to critically analyse opportunities and omissions in the scope of existing design driven practice.
