We are looking for a Head of Direct Freight Operations to develop, innovate and drive the FTL and LTL business in the UK & IE Cluster.


Location:
UK or IE. Will involve travel across the sites and some travel to mainland Europe


Salary:

What will you be doing?

  • Promote and develop innovative digital platforms including D4S (Drive4Schenker) to drive efficiency and develop a leading European market platform
  • Implement defined digital platforms (e.g. D4S) including user interfaces, matching algorithms, and fleet steering within the branches
  • Manage Direct Freight Budget and financial result (EBIT) in UK & IE and develop topline growth, CM1 and EBIT
  • Develop skills within and assist key branch level usage of digital platforms (e.g. D4S)
  • Collect and report customer and carrier feedback on the customer experience for platform development to the RHO Direct Freight function
  • Identify effects and improve transaction efficiency through digital platforms (e.g. D4S)
  • Manage contract and spot freight using authorised digital Schenker platforms with intelligent matching, carrier rating, price building and bidding
  • Combine loads to realise consolidation effects
  • Seek and promote collaboration within the Schenker network
  • Manage full life cycle of a Direct Freight transport order
  • Order acceptance, event management, POD upload and payment processes
  • Support market research and identification of potential partners
  • Improve Direct Freight efficiency
  • Realise productivity gains, standardisation, backoffice efficiencies and improved reporting in cluster
  • Recruitment and development of key staff within Cluster
  • Define local requirements for the digital platforms in alignment with Direct Freight function and IT management

About You

  • Previous experience with P&L responsibility of a Direct Freight operation
  • Solid understanding of Land Transport landscape across Europe including System Freight, FTL/LTL and Intermodal
  • Extensive experience of innovative digital implementation
  • Commercial and customeroriented mindset
  • Knowledge of Freight Exchange platforms and transport technologies
  • Technical knowledge of ADR, Pharma, Healthcare carriers and Automotive experience
  • Delivery of operational and commercial results
  • Fluent in written and verbal English, further languages would be advantageous, ideally French or German
  • Strong analytical and review skills to interpret data
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders to drive alignment and collaboration
  • Effective communication and relationship building skills (internally and externally)
