    We have an opportunity to join the Claims department as a Senior Claims Executive at our Newcastle or London office. In this exciting role, you'll be responsible for handling many different P&I claims, including those that are more difficult and complex, from notification to completion within the authority levels as stipulated, thereby supporting our strategic vision of being a world leading marine insurance group, providing the highest quality of cost-effective service.

    Your main duties will include:

    • Following the P&I Rules and the Association and Claims Department Procedures.
    • Checking the legitimacy of claims against the P&I Rules and the Member's terms of entry.
    • Maintaining files and reports, with accurate, detailed and timely information /documents.
    • Acknowledging receipt and properly handle claims and enquiries, consulting with Members throughout.
    • Developing relations with Members and Brokers and to handle claims appropriately and cost effectively.
    • Issuing security and guarantees, always within authority limits and subject to Members' approval.
    • Carrying out file audits as required.
    • Working closely with Loss Prevention on claims, Member reviews and as the condition of entered vessels and the performance of crew requirement.
    • Involving FD&D in a timely manner in relevant cases.
    • Informing the Underwriting Department of any unusual risks detected.

    Ad Hoc Duties

    Your key accountabilities will include such other duties and tasks are as allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.

    Ideally, you'll have: Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

    • Experience of having worked in the maritime industry.
    • Knowledge & experience of having independently handled P&I claims.
    • IT literate with a good working knowledge of all NorthStandard Group systems and the ability to adapt to all developments.
    • Efficient and effective administration skills, demonstrating attention to detail.

    Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience

    • LPC/ Qualified lawyer; and/or
    • Sailing experience; and/ or
    • Experience of having worked in a P&I club or with a ship owner/operator or trader.
    • Other relevant shipping experience
    • Relevant degree level qualification or equivalent (e.g. maritime studies/ law degree)
