About the role:


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and building strong and trusted partnerships with managers, providing high quality HR advice and guidance to facilitate the early resolution of difficult, complex, or sensitive employee relations issues. Acting as their sounding board and advisor, intervening and steering in the appropriate direction taking account of company policies, employment law, best practice and precedent. Ensuring that the risks associated with such cases are effectively managed and escalating to the HR Manager where necessary.
  • Assisting employees with queries relating to HR policy, process, and best practice.
  • Support the management of complex employee cases relating to disciplinary, grievance, conduct, capability, performance management and sickness absence. This includes providing advice to managers on policy/procedure and legislation, liaising with Occupational Health, supporting formal investigations and hearings.
  • Contribute to policy development.
  • Support learning and development activities across the business, including development and delivery of HR related topics.
  • Provide support with the coordination and delivery of recruitment and induction initiatives.
  • To prepare regular and ad hoc management information reports to support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of HR best practice. Create and maintain a positive team culture, by actively working in collaboration with the wider business.
  • The role is based from our office in Jarrow, just south of Newcastle, covering our standard working hours of Monday to Thursday: 8:30am 5:00pm, and Friday: 9:00am 3:00pm with no evenings, no weekends, and an early finish every Friday.

What you'll bring:


  • CIPD qualification preferred but not essential. It's more important that you can demonstrate how you can support and help to develop our teams.
  • Up to date knowledge of employment legislation and experience interpreting policies, procedures and situations in order to identify pragmatic solutions/recommendations.
  • Experience of advising and supporting managers on a range of employee relations matters to an appropriate conclusion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to persuade, influence and, when appropriate, challenge with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work autonomously, multitask, prioritise and meet deadlines with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A 'can do' outcome focused attitude and approach, resourceful and works to make things happen whilst inspiring others to do the same.
  • Experience of dealing with matters confidentially and sensitively with a sound knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation.
