The starting salary for this position is £29,291 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
This opportunity is offered on a 12 month fixed-term basis.

This role is open to
agile working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week.

You may wish to
work from home or any of our council offices most of the time, whilst also being able to visit our customers across the county; therefore the ability to drive and have access to a vehicle is important.


Active Surrey is looking for a Physical Activity Advisor to join the dynamic and enthusiastic Active Surrey Team. In this role, you will help strengthen the connections between physical activity and health and wellbeing, and contribute totackling inactivity and health inequality in Surrey.

This role will support our aims of facilitating and empowering people to change behaviour and adopt positive lifestyle changes by providing health education and evidence-based advice regarding increasing habitual physicalactivity and reducing sedentary time.


Reporting to the Head of Health, this role will be part of the thriving Health Team and will also work closely with local and national partners including Children and Family Health Surrey (CFHS), boroughs and districts, voluntary sector and the Active Partnershipsnetwork.

About the Role
As a Physical Activity Advisor you will focus on providing expert physical activity advice to both residents and professionals.

Sound knowledge of prescribing exercise and advising on physical activity to special populations, for example those with a long-termcondition and/or those above a healthy weight range, will be key.

Knowledge of the principles of behaviour change and a thorough understanding of barriers to change is essential.


You should have the ability to build positive relationships with health and social care professionals, in signposting them to credible and evidence-based resources, which they can use to help the people they support.

You will be required to work in placeand to signpost and share activities that people, who need it the most, can get involved with.


  • Ability to translate physical activity and exercise information into a format that is appropriate and understandable for people, to support increased levels of physical activity and reduced sedentary behaviour
  • Experience of working with families and adults in a 121 and group environment
  • Experience of delivering and prescribing exercise to those with Long Term Health Conditions
  • Experience of working with people of different cultures, genders and ages in targeted communities
  • Knowledge of weight management and nutrition in relation to health improvement
  • A good understanding of the Health, Social Care and VCFS system.
  • Knowledge of behavioural, emotional development and social isolation issues
