Job description

New Directions College are seeking Casual Exam Invigilators to support the delivery of exams.

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council's Community Learning and Skills service. This year we're celebrating 65 years of Adult Learning in Reading.

We're a small friendly College delivering adult education and skills to over 3000 learners and Apprentices each year, directly and through our subcontractors and partners.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success.

Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

About the Role:

Are you seeking a casual role where you can make a difference to local people's lives?

This is a casual post that will be called upon during the academic year when exams/assessments require invigilators.

The need for exam invigilators is at its highest from October to February which is mock exam season and then April to July which is the main exam season.

Although exams can fall outside this time too.

Often you will be required for around 3 hours at a time, although this may depend on the exam as some may run longer or shorter than others.

There may be some requirement to work in the evening.

Invigilators will use their excellent administration and organisational skills to take responsibility for setting up the exam environment, ensuring that the exam environment is calm and orderly.

Invigilators will work closely with the Quality Officer, fully complying with the College and awarding organisation requirements to ensure the integrity and security of the examination process.

Invigilators will also be responsible for delivering and collecting exam papers from a variety of outreach locations across Reading.

Invigilators will be calm under pressure, ready to support contingencies and provide small and large groups of learners with support, within set guidelines.

New Directions College is committed to widening participation and inclusive learning and to support learners who need help accessing the curriculum.

As times invigilators will support exam access arrangements, this will involve delivering differentiated support during an exam.

Exam Invigilators will have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English or equivalent. As some exams are web based, invigilators need to be confident and efficient in their IT knowledge and skills. Invigilators will have excellent administration skills. Additional training will be provided as required to meet the needs of the role and wider College CPD.

If you have excellent administration skills, are calm under pressure, are able to follow instructions and compliance, while demonstrating excellent customer service, please get in touch

You'll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability.

As well as the colleagues that you work closely with, you'll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.
