I am excited to be working with a reputable environmental consultancy that is currently seeking an experienced and accomplished individual for the position of Principal Ecologist.

This full-time role is based in Edinburgh with hybrid-working options available.

Whether you are a seasoned Principal Ecologist or a Senior Ecologist ready to take on increased responsibilities, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a variety of multi-disciplinary projects and work closely with our esteemed clients.


Key Responsibilities:


As a Principal Ecological Consultant, you will leverage your extensive technical experience in survey design, delivery, and protected species mitigation.

Your role will involve managing complex client sites, overseeing large developments and leading multi-species mitigation projects.

Whether you are looking to enhance your own knowledge or share your wealth of experience with others, you will be a key contributor to this award-winning environmental consultancy.


Leadership and Mentorship:

In this pivotal role, you will represent the reputation and expertise of our organisation on a daily basis.

You will lead key client meetings, design team sessions and provide valuable guidance to clients, demonstrating an inherent customer focus and applied commerciality.

Your experience will be crucial in mentoring and guiding lesser experienced team members, facilitating their professional development alongside your own.


Qualifications and Expertise:

We are seeking an individual with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Authoritative in species mitigation, holding a mitigation license for at least one protected species and accomplished experience in mitigation for several other species.
  • A Survey license holder for at least one species with an authoritative level of experience.
  • Proven experience in developing the skills and knowledge of others through focused mentorship in your specialist area or ongoing support dedicated to the progression of another team member.
  • Excellent report writing skills and proficiency in quality control, including the handling of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office packages.
  • A recognised degree in an environmental or ecological discipline and membership in a relevant professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, or a similar body.
