    Empowering Seamless Connectivity for Satellite Communications On-the-Move

    We have a great opportunity for a Component Engineer (Electronic and Electro-mechanical) to join a growing company supporting Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing Operations and Supply Chain functions in the development of our ultra-low profile, high-performance phased array antennas for mobile satellite communications. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the product development teams with component selection, component library and lifecycle management, second sourcing and cost-downs for SatCom products in the aerospace and land mobile industries.

    Technical responsibilities

    • Manage the JiRA component workflow and Altium component database for the PCB CAD system. Creating electronic and electromechanical component records for new designs
    • Assist the Operations department towards migrating the existing component database to our PLM system and ongoing management thereof. Manage the storage of technical documentation and device datasheets within PLM
    • Liaise with Hardware Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain functions and CEMs to source alternative components for both new and existing designs. Expand your knowledge of our key components and their relationship to our products
    • Support and collaborate with the design engineers and PCB layout team with the selection and validation of new components (electronic and electro-mechanical). Act as a central point of contact for engineering queries relating to components
    • Coordinate proactively with strategic buyers and component suppliers to build and maintain solid relationships to optimise costs and mitigate component lead times
    • Work with the supply chain team to support meetings with component suppliers and update engineering departments on product offerings
    • Leverage your existing global industry knowledge and suggest alternatives where applicable. Understand the purpose of a preferred parts / manufacturer's list
    • Gathering RoHS and REACH data for new components, maintaining information to support the Aero certification process, including uprating and part qualification
    • Support obsolescence, LTB and product change noticed (PCNs). Provide replacement / alternative components to meet product reliability, safety and legislative requirements

    Essential qualifications and skills

    • HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or suitable qualification in a Manufacturing or Supply Chain function or relevant industry experience
    • At least 3 years' industry experience working on component level process and product developments in the communications, aerospace, automotive or maritime industries
    • Experience of electronic components management, preferably complying to RTCA/DO-254 /AMC 20-152A (Aerospace) requirements
    • Thorough understanding of electrical, electronic and mechanical components, device parameters, semiconductors (RF, digital, analogue), connectors, passives, cable-forms and IC packaging technologies. Awareness of the latest industry trends
    • Competent in the use of Microsoft Access, MS Excel/Word, JiRA issue tracking and Industry standard Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Tools
    • Knowledge of Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical BOM structures related to electronic product assemblies
    • Familiar with Altium and the component library manager
    • An understanding of legislative compliance related to RoHS / REACH
    • Appreciation of AS9100 / ISO9001 processes
    • Ability to liaise with and build relationships with supply chain and engineering functions, PCB layout engineers and CEMs
    • Confident working both with external suppliers and internal engineering teams at all levels
    • Proactive and enthusiastic. Able to adapt to a fast-moving environment
    • Knowledge of Aerospace (e.g. DO-160G) or Automotive standards
    • IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies)
    • Experience with the use of Aras Innovator (PLM)
    • Awareness of Export Control compliance
