    Job Description

    Law Firm Compliance Director

    West Midlands (with hybrid flexibility)

An outstanding opportunity for a solicitor with excellent compliance experience to join this profitable and progressive law firm, to lead its established compliance function.

Together with the senior management, you will be responsible for setting and delivering compliance and risk objectives across this multi-office organisation, building a positive environment for the delivery of fully compliant legal services. Specifically, you will ensure the organisation complies with law, regulations and best practice at a time of sustained growth.

This is a law firm with a strong and respected history but with its sights set very firmly on the future. In line with its employee focused ethos, the business has converted to an Employee Ownership Trust, enabling enhanced staff reward. Culturally the firm is professional but fun, with a strong focus on collegiality and a shared sense of direction.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Direct responsibility for all compliance matters in terms of law, regulations and best practice. Ensuring that the law firm complies with requirements of the SRA, Law Society and accreditation bodies.
    • Providing advice and guidance to the CEO to develop and implement the firm's compliance strategy, in line with regulatory requirements.
    • Driving initiatives to improve compliance knowledge systems and processes. Building positive relationships with Heads of Department and across the firm, to minimise professional risk and enhance the culture of first-rate regulatory compliance.
    • Dealing directly with complex compliance queries and with escalations, encompassing AML, conflicts, claims and complaints. The role combines a mix of strategic overview and hands-on work.
    • Leading a team of direct reports who will support you to achieve the above.

You will be able to meet the following requirements:

    • Previous COLP experience, or a qualified solicitor of suitable seniority and experience.
    • Ideally at least 5 years previous experience in a risk and compliance role, within a law firm or legal sector regulator.
    • Experience of working effectively at a strategic level on compliance matters.
    • Outstanding communication skills, enabling you to provide effective staff training and to work effectively and with influence at all levels throughout the business.
    • Proven people management and leadership skills.
    • Versatile: able to give an aerial view of compliance across the business but equally comfortable being hands-on.
    • Team player: committed to collaboration in your drive for success.
    • Enthusiastic and driven.

The firm has a positive approach to flexible/hybrid working as part of its overall commitment to staff wellbeing.

    Remuneration commensurate upon experience.
