    TheAcorn Intermediate Care Unit provides short term specialist rehabilitation andcare for patients who need extra support ahead of returning home safely. Theteam works closely as a multidisciplinary unit to deliver goals set by patientsat the beginning of their journey with the aim to return people to their ownhomes as independent as possible.

    This Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist role comesaround at an exciting time as the Acorn Intermediate Care Unit is entering aperiod of change of location and long-term future planning for beddedintermediate care. The post holder will be part of supporting and implementingthis change to support the future of the people of Barnsley.

    AsSpecialist Physiotherapist on the Acorn Unit you form part of the senior teamof staff who help deliver the services objectives, by placing the patient atthe centre of all care delivered. Whether this be through supporting withcomplex case management, specialist assessment and input, delegation to juniorand other colleagues. As such there are significant opportunities for continualprofessional development and growth.

    This Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist role is expected to lead, manage and delegate a physiotherapy caseload within the bedded intermediate care setting. This is in the form of therapeutic assessments and treatments.

    Main duties of the job

    Tobe professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work,including management of patients in your care.

    Toensure a high standard of clinical care of the patients under your management.

    Toundertake the comprehensive assessment of patients often with complex physicaland psychological presentations and to utilise investigative and analyticalskills to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis to determine the best course ofintervention and develop comprehensive discharge plans.

    Toformulate and deliver specialised individual physiotherapy treatment programmesbased on sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options.

    Toprovide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives,carers and other health professionals to promote understanding of the aims ofphysiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.

    Toprovide appraisal and development supervision for junior staff, Rehabilitationassistants and students to enable them to work to their full potential to meetthe needs of the service and to support their career progression.

  • Post-graduate experience having completed a junior rotation across a wide variety of areas (including rehabilitation of elderly patients).
  • Experience of working at specialist level with elderly patients.

  • Experience of evidence-based practice and risk assessment.

  • Experience of audit/research.
  • Experience of supervision of assistants.
