    Job summary

    A new role has been created at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for a Pastoral Care Lead Band 5 (18 month temporary contract or secondment). The role will focus on recruitment, retention and the provision of pastoral care for nursing staff.

    The applicant will be involved in supporting new starters from their interview through until they start working at the Trust. During this time they will work with the individuals, their future colleagues and PEFs (if they are newly qualified) to ensure that each new starter experiences a positive journey in joining the Trust.

    The individual must be compassionate, caring , supportive and be able to demonstrate strong leadership to all new starters.

    Working closely with the Workforce Matron and the Recruitment and Retention Administrator in all aspects of pastoral care, recruitment and retention of nursing staff with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

    Main duties of the job

    Co-ordination of promotional campaigns for recruitment events. Managing the retention pathway, Grow & Retain our Workforce (GROW), which provides opportunities for registered nurses (RNs) to gain experience working in a different clinical environment.

    Work effectively with Professional Nurse Advocates (PNAs) in supporting staff. Commence open communication channels & provide support throughout the recruitment process for new dialogue with new starter's line manager & matron & arrange Meet the Team visits for the new starter.

    Liaisewith the Professional Education Facilitators (PEFs) & Preceptorship Team. Ensure you attend Keeping in Touch sessions for newly qualified nurses who have yet to start at the Trust who may want the opportunity to complete competency assessments in clinical skills.

    Whilst working with the new ward/department support the team to organise theallocation of each new starter with a Buddyto work clinically and supportively alongside them throughout their induction.

    Attend university careers events, which may occasionally be at the weekend, promoting the Trust as an employer of colleges and schools, actively promoting working for the NHS and the role of a career in nursing.

    Job responsibilities

    Provide pastoral support for the newly qualified staff nurse with their transition from learner to active practitioner. This will include working clinically with the individual on their ward/department to promote independence and confidence of the newly qualified nurses. Support the career development of the internationally educated nurses supporting the EDI strategy.

    Link in with the education team, support the internationally educated nurses currently practicing as HCAs to complete their OSCE to support their transition to Registered Nurses. Identify a Mentor to meet the individual on a regular basis to provide support and reassurance. In the absence of the Workforce Matron the post holder will step up and fulfil the duties where required. Assist the Workforce Matron in supporting and contributing to agreed developments within the Division. Ensure you are a visible leader onsite and in the community settings.

  • RN adult nursing qualification
  • Current NMC registration
  • Professional or clinical qualification relevant to the speciality or evidence of working towards
