Role Purpose:

The
Enhanced Learning Tutoring Initiative was established in 2020 in response to the disruption Covid-19 school closures caused to secondary school education.

The programme is now entering its fourth year and seeks to address the ongoing and longer-term effects of the pandemic on young people's education.

The primary aim is to support disadvantaged pupils, attending high schools in Midlothian and East Lothian, to achieve to the best of their ability in National 4, National 5, or Higher assessments.

Tutoring will take place over two 10-week blocks (October to December 2023 and January to March There are further opportunities to tutor over the school Easter holiday period, and post-Easter until pupils have completed assessments/ exams.

Sessions will be delivered online or in-person, depending on the needs of the individual pupils and the schools.

We have a particular need for tutors in Maths and Science, and tutors who can deliver in
- person sessions in Midlothian and/or East Lothian high schools/community hubs.

We are also recruiting ESOL tutors.


Essential Experience:
Applicants should have previous experience of working with children and/or young people in a voluntary or paid capacity.

Applicants should be:
- well organised and able to solve problems;
- patient and willing to adapt when required;
- able to develop relationships with a diverse group of people;
- able to work on their own;
- willing to contribute to team development of a project;
- creative and innovative.


Contract Basis:
Tutors will be engaged with Theorise Ltd either on a Contract for Services or on a Self

  • Employed Consultancy Agreement, depending on their preference.
Prior to the commencement of the tutoring, all tutors will be required to attend an in
- person training day, on campus at QMU (September 2023/date to be confirmed). Tutors will also be required to attend supplementary training over the course of the programme. All training time will be paid.


All tutors will be asked to commit to the term of the tutoring programme and be willing to give at least two-weeks' notice if required to leave the programme.

The hourly rate is based on contact hours. Preparation and follow-up work for each session is included in the contact pay.

Tutors delivering in-person sessions will be required to travel to schools or community hubs in Midlothian and/or East Lothian. Travel expenses will be paid.


Tutors will need a Disclosure Form prior to commencing tutoring: a Disclosure update will be needed if a tutor already holds a Disclosure Form for a previous role.
